Finally getting rid of my 3rd gen - advice needed please :(

Hi,

Long long time no speak. I've been away for a few years now. I started off with my 3rd gen and then brought a 5th. Got rid of the 5th but kept the 3rd (SORN). Now I've finally come to terms with the fact that I'm going to get rid of my 3rd - bought a house, had a kid, bought a Passat (says it all) etc etc.

So because I've been out of the game for so long, I have no idea what anything's worth. I'll post a few pics of the 3rd and give you a spec list (that I can remember). I remember I spent loads on it and sourced parts from the US and Oz. Mileage is 125,332. It is stored on gravel with good drainage.

• Lowered on Tokico Blues shocks with Neuspeed sport springs
• Genuine embroidered Honda grey leather interior - wear on the driver's lumber but otherwise in good nick
• MG ZT multi-spoke alloys
• TVs in the back of the headrests
• Custom made exhaust (Can't remember what or who, but I had the backbox rewelded on
• I'm pretty sure this is the imported version
• B20a engine - 150bhp

It's in a bit of a sorry state at the moment I'm afraid. Here's a list of what's up.

• I was periodically running it to keep it going, but recently it's stopped starting. I have put that down to the fuel pump. I planned on putting 12v onto it to see if it runs, but I haven't had the time.
• The hydraulic clutch has no fluid in it so it must have a pin prick leak somewhere.
• The paintwork has blemishes from being under a cover.
• Some rust around arches and door trims
• Front splitter has chipped paint from scraping on tow truck (car too low for the ramp).
• Engine bay not looking great

Despite all of this, I still get people knocking on my door asking about it at least once every couple of months, next time someone does, I'll ask them how much they'd pay for it.

So basically, what I'm wondering is how much is the car worth in its current condition? It's a bit of a project but I don't think it'd take a lot to get it back onto the road. I didn't wash it before taking pics, so this is what it looks like right now:

Hi Dane. Sorry to hear you're selling up.

Good news is the going price for 3rd gens has gone up in the last 2 years :) An absolute pristine low mileage manual B20a7 can fetch around £4k these days, double what they were two years ago!

However with yours having those undiagnosed issues and obviously no MOT and rust it'd have to be under £1k. I personally would say between £600 and £800.

Never seen that colour interior on a 3g before, ever.
Nice car. And that's the B20a7 engine.
It's always a bit difficult to value on pics alone (not seeing in the metal) but...
If you don't get it running, then yep I think the lower end of Nafe's estimate.
If you got it running, clean it up a bit, without an MOT (and assuming it doesn't have any shocking rust that means obvious mot failure unless fixed) then maybe £800- £1k.

Thanks for the replies. To be honest that's more than I thought considering it's current condition. The problem is that it's a pretty niche market for 3rd gens I guess. Wurly that's an interesting point you make, perhaps they were reupholstered at some point before I brought them? I might try and get the engine running as it'll massively increase the sale potential

FYI I sold my 3g 4WS EX B20A7 Auto with 165k in excellent condition last February. I was asking 1.9k for it and sold it for 1.8K.

Sorry, it was a '91 model, in White, before you ask.

Wow, that's a great price for the mileage! Well done. I'm probably going to start advertising it locally and see what interest I get.

How much do you want for it?

Mileage is not the issue with 3g's condition and originality are.
