Car Tax

Post by sol-lude » Wed Sep 06, 2017 10:09 am

Now i'm sure plenty of folk on here have a grumble and a gripe when it comes to that good old renewal of tax however it seems that the cost of tax is extortionate.

I'm not sure if its me or i'm just getting old and having a rant but this seems extortionate to me.

Car engine size - Above 1549CC
Standard 12 month rate - £245
Six month rate - £134.75
Total of 12 monthly instalments by Direct Debit - £257.25
Single 12 month payment by Direct Debit - £245.00
Single 6 month payment by Direct Debit - £128.63

Now on top of this if you pay on DD, mostly to help with household cash flow, its a very small interest rate which I cant complain about however if you sell a vehicle and will have paid the tax effectively for the month. This then has to be taxed from the new keeper so effectively 2 payments for the one vehicle for the month. Then if the person selling the vehicle buys another and they have bought from someone paying DD then this again comes full circle. Essentially 4 payments for 2 vehicles in one month.

Sorry rant over and correct me if i'm wrong but this is in my opinion is unfair.

No, it's been spotted before and worthy of a rant!

Be pleased that you're driving a pre 2002 car - my mates '07 S2k costs him the best part of £500 a year I think!

I think it's reasonable considering the new car tax rules.
Assuming our preludes emit over 255gram per kilometer if co2 then the modern day car tax is £2000.
