Got pulled for my number plates...

So 2 nights ago i got pulled over and told my plates was illegal and i need to replace them. He specifically mentioned the letters was to close together and the font was too thin. They said this is a warning and they made a note to look out for my car soon to make sure the plates have been changed. OK so i thought, i will check out the law when i get home. Got home and checked DVLA for the legal sizes and..

My Lude is and import so the letters need to be 64mm high, 44mm wide, 10mm thick and 10mm apart. All was good and exactly 64mm high, 44mm wide, 10mm thick and 11 or 12mm between the letters/numbers.The plates defiantly not too small either.

Has anyone else had this on an import? Im not planning on changing my plates as according to DVLA they are legal. The plates have been on the car for 15 years and no problems. If i get pulled again at least i know what im on about. I still cant beleive the police are not clued up on what is legal. A normal guy would go out and waste £40 on some new plates when they was wrongly accused of having illegal plates.

Pictures of you're number plate?

Go to the police station with you're plates and id with the car vc5 and get them to note it down so next time there wont be an issue.

The letters look a little skinny but nothing illegal.

Thanks for your advice i think i might take a visit to the station so i don't get the same in the future. They are 10mm thick so although look skinny they are perfectly legal. With all the italic plates i see around Plymouth i don't know why they pulled me for this.

If you was on about the width they are indeed 44mm as required by law.

i think it quite common for this to happen if you have a lude thats an import.
There is nothing wrong with your number plate but you know that :)
Half the time i think the police just want to see who you are and have a look at the car :?

i got pulled over recently and the officer said it was just a query as the car was showing as being silver on his database as asked if i had it resprayed - i didnt want to say anything at the time but its obvious thats a load of bs and he just wanted to have a look probably cause the rear number plate looks different to most other cars on the road....

another suggestion is to go to an MOT station and get them to check the plates and write you a note saying they are legal

Do they have the address of the plate manufacturer on them anywhere, it's not clear from the pic.

Its funny you should mention the colour as when i got pulled he did say the car is down as being blue. He did say its just one of those colours and he can see blue in the silver. I said yes its an iceberg blue or something. I cant remember what colour it is exactly. Also yes it has the manufacturer down the bottom 5mm high. He only mentioned the size and spacing he was saying was wrong. It meets the laws requirements so im not going to worry about it.
