Vence was as far as we would get from home. It was time to head north and we set off for the Alpes Maritimes.
Nice road!
On through the Vesubie Gorge:
Then into the clouds (note polite biker saying 'thank you')
and over Europe's highest paved pass:
Congratulations to vtecmec for winning May/June's Lude Of The Month, with his DIY Turbo BB1 build.

We came off the pass and stayed the night in Barcelonnette.
Our next planned stop was to the north. Naturally, we headed west. There was a lake we wanted to look at, the Lac de Serre-Ponçon.
Back on route, we suffered an enforced stop on the Col d'Izoard when the Integra's engine started to run very hot. There are worse places to take a break, I suppose.
The Col's summit sits at 2361m ...
... and we think these may be France's highest public toilets:
Briançon is a short distance northwest of Izoard. It claims to be France's highest city. We couldn't vouch for that, but we found the old town to be pretty interesting.
This is to let you know you've found the right restaurant:
The whole lot sits inside a very extensive collection of Vauban fortifications and other civil engineering.
