Thoughts on the 4th Gen 2.0 as a daily

Hi all

I'm in search of a suitable daily.
My BA7 3rd gen is getting prepped for a H22 swap project and I also don't want to use it over winter or put too many miles on her. I've also already owned a 5G BB8 so know what a H22 lude feels like.

I've never owned a 4G and wanted thoughts from fellow owners on their suitability for a *cheap* daily.
Because if the cheap requirement I'm considering the 2.0 only here.

- What mpg do people get regularly from their F20's?
- Ballpark price range I should pay for a non mint but good mechanical condition one, around £600 is what I'm thinking.
- What's tax and insurance like on these? I've got 10 years no claims.

FYI my commute is 450 miles of A road driving a week.

Cheers luders

My old 2.0i 4th gens got the same mpg as the Type S. No difference. They were all daily drives 10 years ago. Not now because work van.
So you won't save on fuel. But insurance is cheaper, tax is the same.

I get about 37mpg on average in my BB9, but that is mostly motorway miles on decent fuel economy tyres and I've recently had an alignment done, so it's hard to get it much higher!
That nets me about 350 miles before the fuel light comes on so you'd be looking at around £75/£80 of fuel a week, maybe a bit more with the current price.

Tax is £235 a year.

I can't comment on insurance, being 21 and having only had my license for 2 years means mine is horrendously expensive.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I was hoping for a bit better mpg than that but if it's the choice between a beater with better mpg or a prelude I think that's an easy decision!

Should be able to pick up a 2.0 5g for that money, if you wanted?

Do I detect a slight bias?
