Depends on the alarm and your insurer, mate..
If it is a Thatcham recognised alarm/immob, then providing you have a certificate of installation, you could get cheaper insurance.
Some insurers insist on a cat3 alarm/immob to insure cars like the 'lude..
In short, best thing to do is to phone your insurance company and ask if they will reduce your premium if you were to spend £300+ on security. Even then, you may not reduce your insurance but the alarm will still protect your ride.

Normally has to be Thatcham cat 1 or 2 approved and fitted by a VSIB installer.
Even then though, security discounts on car insurance are pretty crap these days. Used to be 10 to 15% discount, lucky if you get 1 or 2% with most now.

I've just got a re-quote from Greenlight after I found out the model number etc of my Thatcham Cat 1 alarm (VSIB installed), anyway - long story short it didn't change the price.

I had a Toad Ai606 fitted to my last Accord, again made little difference to the insurance, but it does give you a bit more piece of mind. For it was worth it for that alone.

You'll often find that they will require a minimum level of security (ie factory fit) on vehicles like Preludes, but won't provide much discount by having an uprated system fitted. However, what it might do, is reduce your compulsory excess in the event of a theft, as on sports cars, the compulsory excess for theft is often higher than the excess for damage or fire.

I have a thatcham cat 1 alarm and immobiliser fitted to my lude, I'm just glad for the peace of mind seeing as it's stored in my lock up atm. Can't say how much it's affected my insurance as it's all well expensive
