Toyota Yaris GR

Post by ATR84 » Thu Nov 12, 2020 10:05 am

Anyone else seriously tempted by one of these?

https://www.topgear.com/car-reviews/toyota/gr-yaris

The reviews coming through are excellent.

I have a test drive booked for December, not allowed to until then because of lockdown.

It's the first new car I have really wanted for as long as I can remember, usually I prefer old cars, hence the 2 Preludes I own.

If I did buy one, I would have to sell both my Preludes really, it's the only way I could justify it to myself.

Looks nice, but a small engine with big power never ends well in the end.

Well it only shares about 5 parts with the regular Yaris but I take your point, I need to see it in the flesh and drive it.

Well they come with a 5 year warranty so I suspect Toyota have tested them to death.

Regarding selling the ludes, especially the Type S, that's the part that I would struggle with the most.

The Yaris certainly looks interesting, it’s good to see Toyota making some performance vehicles again. If only Honda would follow suit!

What’s the other Prelude you have Mike?

Cheers

I have the Type S and a 3g 2.0 4WS as a daily.

Yes Honda have only made the Civic Type R really and to be honest it is ugly and massive. I don't want or need a car that big.

Small engine and big power is where it's all at. My 660cc s660 is banging out 112bhp and 100lbft. It's so fun.

I really like this Yaris gurrrrrrrrr especially in Red.
Still I'd prefer a Micra Super turbo from the 80s.
If I had to have a small quickly car like the Yaris it would be the Honda E.

We were talking about this car at work the other day - certainly something different.

All the hot hatches of today are full size family cars. Its expensive mind, for the same price you can get a civic type r for example, which is likely just as fun but much practical to boot.

Ratty - I so want the honda E , but using my head its terrible (short range (barely get to inlaws in it), high price, meh performance, no particular wow factor with it, small boot).

be
That’s a nice daily to compliment the Type S :)

Yeah, the new CTR is certainly not a pretty thing. I’m sure it’s good fun to drive.

All I really want, after all these years is a BB1 in Phantom Grey or Black to go with my Type S.
That was my first real car love and i still very much adore it, anybody selling one in the near future?
