Asbestos Removal Cost

Post by toadster » Fri Apr 23, 2021 8:03 pm

Lo All :D
Just been quoted £1700 plus VAT to remove a piece of asbestos board 36" by 24" from a ceiling.

It needs to be removed to fit two new doors, an outside door and an inner door.
I think I will just try a fix up the existing one's.
Cheers all ;)

If the edges of the board are still sealed, ie: not ragged etc, I'd be tempted to take it down myself.
Use gloves and a mask and bag up the board. Your local council should take it for a fee (much smaller than £1700!).

Main issue is it's nailed in position with seven nails.
So probably will need to break.
Cheers ;)

You could drill out the nail heads and just pull the board off the stems. Save you breaking it.

One nasty exposure could cause you issues, yes, but one carefully managed operation with forethought? Very different

I know someone in the removal trade and she's a totally fritz. If she can do it anyone can.

You just have to remember one really important rule... Don't breath it in...
hazmat suits are readily available online, as are basic respirators covered for this.

Lo All
Many thanks for Your replies guy's
I have fixed the inner door , know closes and opens nice and easy.
Had a guy come around today and He said the asbestos doesn't need removing to fit the outer door.
So know going to have a new uPVC door fitted :D
So glad I gave the Guy a ring, saved a lot of hassle and a lot of money too
Cheers ;)
