Merlin I tried that, didn't work out that great.. I used Iphone app 'Flashlight' its really bright but the final image came up all out of focus..

Post up the image so I can have a look.

Depending what your tring to do this is how I get my focus for shots. With the camera on auto focus, shine a light on an object that is at the distance you want to focus at. Generally I get a friend to stand 3m away and shining alight on himself. Get your camera to auto focus on that point, then switch it to manual focus so it locks that focal point. Then you are free to do what you want without the camera stuggling to gain focus for every shot.

Not that bad, try the focus thechnique above and maybe a stronger torch.

Cool Merl, I will Autofocus on the light and then manual focus it before pressing the shutter button.

Try bumping up the aperture as well, f8 or so. The type of light emitted by your Iphone may cause the light to bleed out resulting in that unfocussed look.
