My 5th Gen SIR, whats its value? Pics included

Post by majemoss » Mon Jun 11, 2012 1:40 pm

Hi all, I'm unfortunately having to think about selling the Prelude. My heart is telling me keep it as I've put alot of time and effort into it over the last few months, but my head is saying I need to sell.
The reason i'm thinking is mainly for practicality reasons, with 2 growing children it is becoming a bit too much of a squeeze and plus it just doesn't look right with car seats in the back :) , also the renewal price isn't the cheapest and with only driving a 1 mile journey to work every 4 days a cheap run around maybe a better option.

Anyway, my main question is what do people think its worth, heres the spec.

1997 Prelude 2.2 VTEC BB6 SIR,
H22A engine (200hp) :D
L.S.D gearbox M2T4 model. :D
Red half leather interior, with original red floor mats - the interior is immaculate.
18" Ace Alloy wheels,
4 x almost new Toyo Proxes4
Full Wings West Avenger Kit (excellent OEM quality) made from Polyurethane, the kit was fitted professionally around 2001 with the original receipt for £1500 for kit alone
Wing West Thruster high spoiler.
JDM electric folding mirrors in full working operation.
LPG gas converted - reduces power by approx 20%, and never used in VTEC - costs £28 @ 69p a litre to fill (40litre tank) and will get me 220 miles. So a worth while investment, and can be switched to petrol at the flick of a switch.
Premium sound system with JVC Chameleon head unit.
Digital climate control.
GT Alarm
Fully undersealed with waxoil

I bought the car in January and since buying it I have done the following
Cambelt, Balance belt, and tensioners,
Waterpump,
Air con condenser, new air con pipe and re-gas.
New starter motor fitted 4 weeks ago
Stripped brakes down, cleaned up discs - it had new front/rear discs and pads before I bought it but as it had been stood they had become rusted. Un-seized calipers and handbrake control, adjusted up handbrake.
Gave the car a service - new oil and filter.

The car has full history, and a folder full of old receipts, Mot's etc.
In 2009 at 118k the car was taken off the road and garaged, my father in law put the car back on the road in 2011 and I bought it off him at approx 122k - I've done 3k since then.
It is taxed until 08/12 and Mot'd til September.

Overall they car is in pretty good condition, there is a few rust spots starting to show mainly the bonnet.
there is a slight blow from the rear silencer where the pipe goes in - but it is only noticeable when under the car, I will sort this out.
5th gear grinds if rushed at high rpm but other than that its silky smooth.

There is a few bubbles in the o/s/r wing but not really noticeable.
There is a small dent under the petrol flap, although this recently has strangely popped itself out an no where near as noticeable.

Well heres a few pictures.

The number plate is going back to a P plate - I have just order the plates as the paperwork has now been sorted, there is 2 previous owners on the car.

Well i'm not sure of its value but I would around £2000 be feasable?
Opinions and comments welcome - thankyou all.
Mark

Its a really tough one to call. To me I think it would depend on if the potential buyer counts the LPG conversion and the body kit as positives.

Hi Merlin, Imo I'd say the LPG is definitely a positive. You get the best of both worlds if you have a long commute then its a great money saver, but also if you fancy a brisk drive down a country lane then you've always got 99 ron at the flick of a switch. With the LPG it runs much smoother and cleaner, so for driving slow round town you can leave it in higher gears longer without having to change down.
With the kit the only thing I would change is the front bumper, everything else imo looks really well, especially with the wheels. But like you say its what the potential buyer sees.

I would no doubt count LPG fuel efficency as a positive, however the space it takes up in the boot is not ideal and the cynical view that its just another thing to go wrong may go against it. I would say put it up for whatever price you feel is suitable and if it doesnt sell knock the price down a bit?

I/we have seen very nice cars just not sell, there was a really nice stock JDM SIR on PUK for ages and it didnt shift :?

If you have the original bumpers etc. to go with the sale, you may get more interest.

I think it's worth £2100. As the LSD gearbox is there with the H22A engine. I know the body kit is not to everyone's taste but that can be changed later.

Good luck with the sale. :)

Thanks Nitin, well I've advertised it at £1900, so would hope for this or very close to this amount. I don't think he kept the original bumpers but if he does have them I'll include them in the sale. Pretty sure he doesn't though.
Thanks for comments
