She is on the road again :-)

Post by Lovedoctor » Wed Jul 18, 2012 11:54 pm

After 2+ months off the road the 'lude lives again :D . For over a year I have had rear caliper issues and have tried several 'fixes' to sort it but the issue returned.

Had a couple of difficult months financially a few months back and with the Prelude needing Insured, Mot'd and nowing it would require replacement calipers I couldnt afford to keep it on the road so it was parked up on my drive

But she lives again! Having acquired calipers off of A1ex I finally got some readies to Insure and get the work done before MOT'ing. Apart from the scramble having found out that the ATR calipers supplied me are not the same as A8's (something to do with one being 'hanging' held and another with a circlip? my mechanic got a hold of new ones and they were fitted. Recieved the call tonight that it has now passed its MOT with no advisories (although I have to change my passenger belt as it has some damage - the tester knew one was on the way).

Long live VTEC! Seriously - compared to my much newer 'family' car I spend much less on the Prelude and it throws few wobblies! I cack myself every time the Mazda goes in and it never fails to let me down! Wish Honda would return to its late 90's-00's principles as its cars now are mundane! What will I want own in 10+ years time from the Honda stable

The problem was that they continued to stick - in particular the nearside. The grinding and heat that it gave off at times could have BBQ'd my dinner

Tried removing and regreasing last year but after a few weeks didnt work. Attempted the 'Big Red' kit but it too didnt work - during the fitting we must of damaged the mechanism inside the caliper as once refitted the handbrake had no purchase. Final solution was a new caliper. Working a treat now :D

You sure about that Merlin? Car is nowhere near where I want it to be. At the moment I need to save for my alloys being acid dipped and resprayed. With the current condition two are releasing air quite rapid! Have quite a list to get through!!!Gonna spend the next few days getting the car back into a presentable condition (weather permitting!)
