right, is it me or are hp laptops bum droppings!? i bought my mrs one for her birthday a few weeks ago from pc world

this one http://www.pixmania.co.uk/uk/uk/1265512 ... a-red.html

(cant seem to find it on the pc world website)

anyway two days after i gave her it the screen started to just go dim (like too dim to see anything) as and when it wanted! so we took it back and the guy said it must have been a faulty mother board and gave her a new one, had this one two weeks and tonight its started doing the exact same thing! shall i take this one back and ram it up their cake hole or is it a simple fix? ive done the obvious - turning off ambient dimming, turned off brightness dimming on/off battery power.

soo annoying because shes just finished loading up every picture of our daughter from the minute she was born

any advice would be cool 8-)

I'm not a fan of them man, had nothing but hassle with the ones I've had. My dads had to get his replaced also, and now laptop 2 is getting iffy. I tend to always buy Thinkpads these days, usually factory refurbs from these guys: http://www.tier1online.com/Product/5356 ... 41_TFT.htm

They have a mag alloy chassis, everything is easily user serviceable, and the build quality can't be touched. These things actually have drain holes in the keyboard so a drinks spill doesn't screw anything. Honestly can't recommend them enough.

I've had a few (I'm typing on one now). Never had any issues.

i had 1 and it used to overheat because the fans would get full of dust. i used to get it cleaned out, but eventually it gave up all together.

i then went and get a thinkpad, brilliant machines, it is now my back up lappy as i also have a vaio 8-)

If number 2 is goosed man I'd take it back and claim not fit for purpose. Before that, buy an external hard drive and back up all the piccies so you have them (an external drive is handy when using a laptop anyway).

This!

Just take it back, say its the 2nd one that's duff and you don't want a replacement again.

Phone them - don't go in.

I had the same issue but with 3. They sent me the value of the laptop minus £150 in vouchers and I kept the laptop.

And yes. HP and Compaq are bum droppings ;)

Had a Dell XPS for 4 years and it is still going fine.
