Hi guys,

My brother is looking to replace his current car ('57 Renault Clio 1.2) due to his growing family.

Criteria as follows:

5 Doors
Large(ish) boot
Air con
Single or double din stereo (ability to fit an aftermarket one)
1.4, or at a push 1.6 engine due to insurance. He hasn't ruled out having diesel.

He's not into cars like me, so he really doesn't care what it is, or if it's the slowest thing on the road.

The biggest problem I've got is that anything with a bigger engine shoots up his insurance, I've looked at Accords, Mazda6, Primera, Avensis, but being 1.8 or 2.0 litre the insurance is too high.

So, ideas?!

The breadvan shaped Civics would fit the bill no? There's a fairly peppy 1.4 of those, and a 1.6 - the space inside is damn impressive too.

EP/EUs are dead boring, but are absolutely fantastic little cars.

Highly recommended as an appliance-type car.

The newer Civics (2006+) are getting cheap now and are even better at being a family car. It has a cavernous boot and rear seats that fold up and down 8-). You can get them in 1.4 as well. I haz the 1.8 iVTEC.

ford focus? Boring but ticks all the boxes and they do a 1.4 or 1.6 version
