Second car suggestions people!

Hey guys,

Right, I'm getting a little confused looking around for another car at the moment.

I'll be starting a new job in the new year and rather than a company car like I currently have, I'll have a car allowance to sort out my own transport.

So...suggestions please for something in the £5-8k range.

It needs to be fairly practical (but there can be an exception if it's awesome), be either a hatchback or estate, 5 doors preferred but could accept a 3 door (again if awesome). Fairly new reg, say from 2004 onwards and some decent mileage, 60k and under. As for engine size, I've looked at anything from diesels to petrol 2.5 turbos, so mpg and tax can be taken with a pinch of salt. Something more economical would be a bonus, but would definitely want some fairly rapid as I need a fix with the lude being off the road for so long.

You're thoughts:

1.
2.
3.
4.
5.

I'll add a couple that I'm looking after I've heard you guys first.

nissan 350Z has to be on this list, low 20's normal mpg which aint bad and as much as low 30's on a run, pre 2007 cars £270 a year tax post 2007 £400 and odd, hatchback (but has a great big strut brace through the middle of the boot) totally practical if you want a grin every now and then. ok perhaps not but i want one and so should you

Skoda Octavia VRS estate. Fast, torquey... and practical ;-)

My mate has one (company car) and the build quality is brilliant. It'll keep up with the lude easily to (Probably faster than a standard lude).

I went company car shopping with my mate and the Skoda really did put the likes of VW, Audi and BMW (among others) to shame when comparing simular priced cars.

BMW 3 Series 330 M Sport 3.0 Diesel Coupe. A decent mix of looks, performance, and fuel economy 8-)

anybody thinking of 1 of these should check the boot floor where the diff mounts as they are ripping the mount out of the floor, E46 in general that is.
