Anyone have an idea if I can take this seller to court or anything?

Brought a 2000 Punto for my muum though ebay over two weeks ago, not by my choice but anyway I checked all normal stuff on collection, half way home (20mins driving on dual carriagewayand motorway) on M25 the headgasket blows  , get it RAC'ed to my dad's garage over 2 hours later, he checks it over, headgasket def gone, cylinder head cracked, the buyer said send him a invoice of the work and he will get back to us, that was a week ago, no reply to calls or email since, new cylineer head fitted, cam belt, headgasket fitted last week also since then the core plugs are rotten so engine out, this all due the the idiot not using anti freeze

Private sale mate you are screwed. Caveat emptor. Hard lesson to learn though!

I sold a 1.1 Mk1 Fiesta years ago to a guy in Kent. The head gasket went on him on the way home. He let me know about it once he'd gotten home, but accepted I wasn't to know it was going and just took the loss. Sadly it is the case that it's just not his problem anymore, but also unless he admitted it, you never know whether it was neglect on his part anyway. He could have relied on an idiot mate to do a "change", or even a dodgy garage :? I know that doesn't help things, but it might make you less angry about the whole thing.

As others have said, I'm afraid the seller can't be held responsible in a private sale.

This is what I thought :( , he did say his mate serviced the car so he was prob the one that didn't put anti freeze in it :tosser:

Thiking outload here. Are you sure he is a private seller?,is his name on the v5? how long has he had it? has he sold any other cars recently? If he is selling cars from home on a regular basis it would make him a trader. Then you would have some comeback.

hey guys, personally i would be thinking - why no antifreeze, could this possibly be because it was recently changed because the gasket had already blown, i would be inclined to think he knew, bodged it to sell on
the fact of no antifreeze would sugest this. he prob put some rad weld in there to get it running, then a quick sale
