abit of non lude related help please?

Post by bristol_bb4 » Tue Dec 11, 2012 2:07 pm

right ill cut the story short, my mrs's 206 gti's clutch went, took it to mr clutch who took 5 days to replace it  ever since they replaced it theres a loud "ticking" kind of noise when the clutch isnt down, when the clutch is pressed it goes away.

now, today we took her car back to them to fulfil the terms of the warranty and i asked them what the noise may be since it only appeared after the new clutch, the guy told me it sounds like the diff bearing is drokked but will be ok to drive no problem! :? now im not too clever on gearboxes but wouldnt something like that affect the way the car drives rather than just make a ticking sound while the clutch pedal isnt depressed?

feel abit stupid asking on here for advice but i dont know any other friendly(ish) bunch of clever people

sound to me like the thrust bearing. Does it make the sound when in gear coasting with the clutch pressed?

More like the clutch release bearing, that's why the noise goes away when you press the clutch in.

Probably not replaced when they did the clutch or they installed it wrong.

I have alarm bells ringing when I hear "Mr Clutch" pretty sure there have been other problems with them

Inclined to agree.
Had a clutch done by a supposedly reputable garage...later found out they had taken it to Mr Crutch.....and then found out it was a bloody refurb  and a jobby one at that.

so annoying because my mrs only passed her test last monday and is all excited about driving here there and everywhere, kinda ruined it for her abit with the worry that her cars going to die on her
