Lude Generation

Hi boys and girls

Been ages since i posted in here, but now christmas is out of the way, its car shopping time!

I've desperately wanted another Lude since selling my last one over 2 years ago. But something is now really drawing me to the EP3 Civic Type R.

I don't know much about these cars and would like some opinions - preferably by somebody who has owned one or still owns one .

Also, what sort of trim or year of manufacture would be best to go for??

One problem with the EP3 Civic.... It was perfected previously by the EK9. Only other choice would be the FD2.

Maybe I should have said around the £4K mark lol.

I like the EK9, but the missus says theyre too old

There's another problem with ctr's imho too... EVERYONE's got one (yawn).

Nobody I know has one, that's why i'm asking here. But they could be popular for a reason? I've just been reading a lot of good reviews on them.
Don't get me wrong I love preludes. It was my old prelude that made me like Honda so much... but lets face it they're not getting any newer and are becoming increasingly harder to find mint, low mileage manual vtec's.
Plus the CTR's are quicker with better mileage return - what some might say, Win - Win

Well i'm seriously considering it. I understand a few prelude owners are very true to their Lude's and tend to dislike anything else for any number of reasons, but any opinions from ctr owners (or former owners) would be good

I have also tried a few other Civic and Honda forums but thought somebody here may have some good advice

Tell the missus that's some things (like cars) are like fine wines, they get better with age. Forget a Civic type r, get a mint Prelude type s.

If you want more of the driving experience of the Lude in a Type R, have a look at the Accord.

If you are a baker and need a van to deliver bread in the mornings, consider an EP3.

The CTR is a good car but i always like to be different.

The 5th Gen isnt to eveyrone taste and its not the best looking car but they are a definately a rare sight on the roads.

I've driven a friends one (but not in vtec or anything like that) just a normal slow drive. You tend to sit alot higher in that car than in a prelude and i love the gearstick position. It is very smooth and lovely to drive

The only thing i didnt like about it was the looks. As mentioned it looks too much like a breadvan

I love coupes and saloons but thats IMO

If i ever get to change the prelude i would definately get a EURO R CL7 jdm Accord.

My brother got an EP3 when I got the lude so I've driven it a lot....well until some scroat stole it from his driveway.
Don't listen to the naysayers, they are a very capable car, especially for the money these days.
That said, I wouldn't console yourself in the fact that they are quicker, they really aren't. There was zero in it in the real world between our cars and that was a stock UKDM lude at the time. They have an extra gear change to contend with The civic would pull away slightly but the lude would claw back at the top end of every gear.
Also, build quality. My brothers was brand new, mine was 8 years old at the time, and still felt better in terms of build quality etc.
The civic is fine for what it is and the boot is VAST when the seats are down, it just depends what you want from a car. Oh and yes, the looks need to grow on you a bit....
