Need a new TV but can't afford one, options?

Banter goes here, and doesn't have to be Lude related

Need a new TV but can't afford one, options?

Post by Ammo » Wed Feb 20, 2013 8:45 pm

As per a previous post my Hannspree 37" tv has gone pop after 5 years and I need a replacement.

Problem is all the cheap TV's seem to all have short comings, So I was thinking as I'm skint about buying another PC monitor with HDMI and using that (24") and the HD freeview box I have already, the only issue will be sound.

I do have a complete set of Creative 5.1 speakers/sub but the amp died.

It's in my bedroom so a massive TV isn't essential

Good/bad idea?

Also what cheap amp to plug the freeview box into for sound?

If it's 1080p and you're happy with the screen size then it can't be a bad idea. TV speakers are Clubbing Eddy anyway so your 5.1 system will be better than what you'd get in a tv. Only problem I can think of is the amount of input ports available, and also that there'd be no antenna connection.

Thing is, how expensive would it be? I got a 39" Bush TV for £225 last month, and it's doing fine -surely a decent monitor isn't much less than this?

How has 'pre.tty wa.nk' become 'clubbing eddy'? The swear filter on here is getting almost as bad as the one on Type Accord - over there you can't even explain how to bleed brakes as 'nipple' is filtered, along with 'bum' and god knows what else

Something like http://www.ebuyer.com/387133-samsung-s2 ... _wednesday

Then when I can afford a TV it can be used as a Monitor, where as the Cheap TV's make rubbish monitors

What makes them rubbish monitors? I've got my gaming rig hooked up to mine, with all settings on max things like silent hunter 5 look epic on it. Much better than my previous Goodman's TV 8-)

Most cheap TV although they are 1080 the native PC res is less and if you set the PC to output to 1080 it doesn't actually display properly

I see :geek: I've not counted the pixels on mine lol but GTA 4 looks better on my PC than it does on my Xbox. I guess the thing with PC's is there's so many variables with graphics cards and drivers etc. that problems with compatibility are more likely to arise. I'd recommend my TV though, bought it from Argos :)
