Just got a replacement Red V5 in the post from the DVLA, which confused me as I was trying to get one for the shell I scrapped but it would have cost me £25 and this one was for my Road Lude
DVLA is replacing all existing blue V5Cs and will issue a new red V5C for all vehicles that have not already had one by November 2012.

We are replacing all existing blue V5Cs. The new certificate is being introduced following the theft of a number of blank blue V5Cs. the aim is to reduce the risks to motorists of buying a stolen or cloned vehicle.
Just so people know

Cut the cat off before you scrap any car, the cats can be worth up to £150 each. Just a heads up. They contain Platinum and its worth £32 per gram scrap. Although you wont get the full value from a scrap yard leaving it on is wasted money! :P

An origional Lude cat is worth about £40 - 50 scrap value at a scrap yard, but they must make a good cut on that too, they are not stupid. Pug 306 HDI cats get £150 scrap value and Vauxhall cats ending with the number 56 or was it 46 are worth 150 too

They do have to be genuine cats and not after markets becuase they are a low grade. If you have a BIG bMW or some sort of v6 then happy days because there are usually 2. Also taking the cars battery off is another £5 even if its fooked and then there are the alloys, cut the tyres off and weigh them in they are worthe about £8 each

So next time you scarp a car make sure you get your monies worth
4x8 = £32
cat average £50
battery £5-8
scrap value of the car £170 per ton and average car 1250 kg roughly £200

so thats an extra £90 you can squeeze out of a dead car walk away with £290 is better than £200.

If your real tight then rip the loom out and weigh it as household cable thats about £2.50 per Kilo then a copper rad is worth roughly about £5.

Copper is where the money is at @£4.5K per ton

I will buy any dead lude for £300

Last year a load of blank green V5's were stolen from the dvla approx 50,000 :shock:

All current green V5's between certain serial numbers had to be replaced with the new red ones, making the stolen blank ones useless.

Not everyone will be sent a new red V5, only certain ones between certain serial numbers will be replaced. ;)
