Their V6 turbos of the 80's were the engines to have

'One of the last turbo F1 cars, mainly the McLaren MP4/4, driven by Senna, had a Honda engine 1.5l V6 with 2 turbos, 1250 hp race-tuned and capable of a bit more overall, and that was 22 years ago'

*don's anorak* The 1988 turbo cars (including mp4/4) were limited to (IIRC) 2.5bar boost and a tighter fuel limit (was 4 bar in 1986/87)- thus the engines were 'only' making ~650bhp. This was to provide closer competition with the n/a 3.5L cars in the field before the regs switched to 3.5L n/a engines in 1989 (of which Hondas was again the best!!)
The 1986 special qualifying engines were those making ~1300-1500bhp. Exotic fuels, waste gates closed for 2 Lap qualifying runs etc etc....
I went to my first British GP in 1986 at the tender age of 9!
*anorak off*

Ooh,
Hopefully they'll do well. I'm sure there's a link between Honda doing well in F1 and them building good road cars

It's all a ploy to cunningly test the engine for the new prelude...
