Some premium bank accounts come with it. I have Barclays additions. The breakdown cover and travel insurance makes it pay for itself, then on top you get lots more like a legal advice helpline, 1 year extended warranty on most domestic items you buy, mobile phone and gadget insurance etc.

I think Lloyds and a couple of others do something similar.

Try www.moneysavingexpert.com and do a search. Usually pretty good tips/impartial advice on there.

You need an "extended stay" policy, the ones you get on bank cards etc are "multi-trip" policies and no use to you, as the single trip will be limited to 30 or 60 days max (as in you must leave and return to the UK within 30/60 days).

Watch comparison sites, they usually give jobby cover so they can get their rate to the top of the screen.

Probably best off getting hold of a travel specialist that can give you what you need.

I know you can get yearly ones, as my folks had one when they went trotting round the globe, not sure if it covered extended stays though.

You can get them for something like 18 months with some.

A quick google and Axa do an extended stay/backpacker policy for 12 months http://www.axainsurance.com/travel/

I know someone that's been travelling for 4 years so far so there must be lengthy policies out there
