Smashed my phone screen. Options?

Classic day of never should have bothered getting out my bed! 4y.o fuelled by too much chocolate made the Easter Egg hunt a testing affair. Compounded when getting home my phone falling out of my pocket and landing perfectly face first onto the Tarmac! Screen is a complete mess and needs replaced although still fully functional at he mo (only glass damaged then I suspect). What are my options? I have a HTC One X and while I am insured through RBS it is a £75 excess  Is it easy to get another screen and replace myself for example? Thoughts please

As merc said check the vids on you tube and look on eBay for replacement screens. I replaced the screen on my I phone 3 for £5 and it came with the tools and a link to there YouTube vid to do it

I have changed a few screens in the past, they are very fiddly to do and need lots of patience, if its the front touch screen part you can pick one up one ebay for about £20 but if need the lcd too you looking about £50.
Some phone shops don't charger to much to fix.

Cheers for the responses guys. Watched an in depth YouTube vid last night and it scared me - don't have the patience or skills I reckon to do it myself. Also only 6 months old so wouldn't want to invalidate the warranty. I will try a few phone repair shops tomorrow and hope it isn't too expensive :x

I know a few people who have replaced screens. Mixed success seems to be the result!

A few have been OK and a few have ended up paying to get it done after a lot of hassle. It's probably one of the few things I would pay someone else to do. I need to get a new microphone in mine after I gave it a 40 degree synthetics wash a couple of weeks ago :stupid:  It sounds like I am in a tin can now. I'm gonna pay to get it done.

Pretty much. If a local shop can fix it cheap enough, I'd then take out a wee monthly insurance thing from someone like http://uk.protectyourbubble.com/ as a just in case going forward :(
