I made the mistake of engaging in topic with this youtube user. Can't believe the outcome.
kinda needed to vent after his last comment, which he then blocked me from replying to. Some people!
I did think he was getting a bit over defensive but i don't know why.

my name should come up as umbramalison, but it might be my name andrew barnes.
if anyone feels like defending me, he's tried to make me look like a bad driver. grr!!

I didn't watch all the video, the bloke has an annoying voice
But he was pissed off because she passed him on the inside before he moved right? If that's all it is then I think he needs to take his head out his arse. Cyclists just seem to look for any minor thing to have a moan about these days, you could almost say it's become trendy
I should probably add I do like cycling, but I rarely ride on the road as I don't think push bikes should be on the road with motor vehicles imo. I either ride the quiet side roads near my house to get to the trails around the cliffs, or do the sensible thing and put my bike in the boot of the car, and take it up the downs for some mountain biking

I have nothing against cyclists (apart from ones who think they don't have to pay attention to road markings/traffic lights) and I see why they've taken to wearing cameras. But this new trend of posting every little fault they see, even the reading out loud of peoples number plates seems a bit over the top. I know its. Because the video doesn't pick it up but why read out ones for people who haven't wronged you? Maybe concentrate on what's going on around you instead of that guys number plate.
Also loved the 'you don't pay road tax so I'm justified in trying to run you over' comment. I think you'll find you don't pay road tax either love.

Yeah, when she came out with that I just couldn't take any more knob heads and switched it ofRocky wrote:Also loved the 'you don't pay road tax so I'm justified in trying to run you over' comment. I think you'll find you don't pay road tax either love.

To be fair with his self righteousness and her ignorance they were bloody made for one another

On a side note, what is 'road tax' actually called these days? I want to say motor tax, but for some reason road fund licence is stuck in my head. Is that something else?

LoL, I should have been clear!!! I'm not in the video, or in any video. I don't drive in London (unless i'm trying to get out and back to the country side for air) let alone cycle there!!! Why would anyone? the public transport is actually really really good.
In this video he goes off on one about road tax, which is now called VED tax bands based on pollution rate of your vehicle. I commented to say that he made a good point, however I think the hostility comes from lack of insurance not VED/road-tax... I thought i was entering an educated conversation (maybe a debate) - well I guess I must have made some good points (inc highway enforcement for cyclists as well as motor vehicles) as he then blocked me from replying.
I think i made a really good point that considering motor vehicles are held accountable for their crimes (cameras, registration plates, police, responsibility to others, insurance, etc) that IF there really were more bad drivers than good drivers then the whole system must be flawed.
As a guestimate, I expect the ratio's would to be 70% good drivers, 30% bad and 30% good cyclists to 70% bad. Clearly there is enough bad drivers to make councils a good profit, but if it were over 50% bad drivers then the police etc would be under serious scrutiny.
There are many many videos that go, "OMG, another driver with a phone/piece of paper/wrong lane - <reg number> <REG NUMBER> <REGGGGG NUMMMMBEEEERRR>.... let's see that again...."
Really they should be focusing on the road, at the end of the day when you go looking for trouble, you will always find it.
The current road layouts just don't work, and I don't think the ASL (advance stoppings lines) for cyclists to get ahead of the traffic make any sense. overtaking a cyclist isn't fun, why do it more than once? And have you tried driving in london at cycling speeds (as in don't over take)? that causes some interesting problems too - esp with taxi drivers!!!

I cycle quite a bit, and frankly, there are plenty of drivers that should not be on the road, and plenty of cyclists too.
No one gets more annoyed than me at seeing cyclists go through reds etc because it just gives us all a bad name.
BUT I've also punched the side of a bus before, as if I didn't he would have killed me, and I've had stuff thrown at me from a chav in a car..until we both pulled up at the next lights and his nose started bleeding?...
Until you have actually ridden on the roads you drive on, I don't think you really give enough consideration to cyclists/bikers.
Many drivers idea of 'enough room' is if their wing mirror doesn't hit you.
I'm not going to watch this guys vids as I know that both he and the drivers will wind me up, all I'll say is, in the 2 mile journey to work today I was:
1. Almost T-boned by a tool in a merc pulling out, who then preceded to go right out onto the other side of the road, nearing causing a head-on.
2. Nearly hit by a pensioner that didn't so much as run a red...as not even realise lights were there!
3. Nearly arse-ended by yet another lone female in a 4x4 POS, because she was looking at her hair in the mirror.

bennyboy, I totally agree, but i'm too scared to cycle in London (even just to try it!)...
I meet far more bad drivers than bad cyclists, which is mostly because there are many more drivers to cyclists. But at least with drivers you can take their reg and pursue something if need be.
When a driver meets a cyclist you just don't know what your gonna get, from experience, training, respect. but without a way of holding them accountable for good or for bad, well I think it becomes a trust issue.
It does concern me, esp in London where few learn to drive but can still jump on a push-bike - but i'd go further to say that having a licence to drive doesn't mean you can cycle either (but at least there are some common parts)!
I think another controversial point here is the amount of mental work a driver is expected to handle.
* They are solely responsible for pedestrian safety and cyclists,
* then their own safety,
* maintaining a speed that is not a hindrance to other road user but doesn't go above the limit (which changes far too often) ,
* watching things like yellow box junctions - man those things jump out at you from behind a bus/lorry!
* watching out for speed traps (which is a must because the limit changes so often that you can never be sure you doing the right speed),
* more watching of the speedo,
* going in the right direction (looking out for signs, getting in the right lanes (which is rarely sign-posted),
* avoiding bus-lanes or knowing exactly when you can/can't use them (all are different),
* traffic lights obviously,
* avoiding fines!
that doesn't leave much room for knowing at all times where the cyclist is, where they might come from. they could undertake, overtake, appear between you and a bus that's indicating to leave a bus stop.
All i'm saying is it's hard work - i don't know why anyone who drives that doesn't really have to does. Everytime you get in your car, you have no idea who's lives will be legally your responsibility for and with no regulation you can't take any confidence that cyclists know what their doing or what your doing.
At least we need drivers and cyclists who appreciate the problems of mixing two very different road users and thus have better perception of what's going on. The types of cyclists in those youtube channels are not those.
