Gearbox prob??? :s

Post by night_51 » Thu Jun 13, 2013 8:38 pm

Hey guys,

My 4g is off the road due to what I suspected to be a gear box prob but my mate thinks its something else. So thought I'd see wot your opinions are.......
It's a 2.0 automatic. When its in reverse the whole car vibrates a hell of a lot. And when it's sat at the lights or just stationary it makes a rattling noise while it neutral and then wen in gear till it gets to around 10 mph.

Appreciate any help. :)

having been searching through bmw forums yesterday for a vacuum pump fault i thought i would offer some of the same type of expert help here that i found on them. 99% utter rubbish.
my diagnosis is if you have a blue spare wheel that has less than 25psi in it that can cause your gearbox to make strange noises.

there we go about as much help as an ashtray on a motorbike just like a bmw forum full of ass holes.

get it on a ramp or pit if possible and if you have access to a stethascope poke it around the box listening for where the noise is coming from ( a long handled screwdriver would do) if you cant pinpoint the noise there move around other areas until you find it like merc said heatshields etc but if the whole car is vibrating im thinking gearbox shot. :)

Right guys, been to it today...... Now it's vibrating a lot in reverse, a bit in neutral but then as soon as you put it in drive it stops......... All mounts at top of engine seem ok, and there's no leaks. :s

Any further ideas ppl? ;)
