Oldest active T shirts?

Post by Angus » Mon Jun 17, 2013 9:42 am

Here's my two oldest T shirts, both of which I may add still fit me. :) The Dio one dosn't get out much now in the interests of conservation - but the Rainbow tour vest thing gets used every summer.

Can any readers beat 1981 as the oldest T shirt still seeing active service?

I know, it's bloody shocking, eh?

The gf has been trying to persuade me to part with some of my older tour shirts - I suspect some may have gone missing recently.

A bloke at Celica Club beat me, though, with a Damned T shirt from the late 70s. :)

I have a 70s fur lined suede coat. I didn't buy it then but when I have to check a bitch I wear it.

I've got a Dio one from my first concert - I think about '84? (Also Genesis from '81 (A Gift), Deep Purple from '85, Whitesnake from whenever, Rainbow from... Rainbow Rising tour I think (Inherited that one)). No chance of active service though... I was half the size!

For scruffs, I do wear a couple I was given free when I worked for AT&T....and when they sponsored Jaguar in F1. Must be early/mid 90's.

84 would have been the Last In line tour, with Queensryche supporting. Would that have been the Apollo? That's where I got my Dio shirt, though I saw them in Aberdeen on the LiL tour. Went down to see Waysted as support band really, being a bass-playing UFO uberfan with a Pete Way obsession at the time (still play a Thunderbird myself).

Deep Purple 85 I'm guessing was at Knebworth? I was there too. Scorpions & UFO both played, and Blackmore in his wellies. :)

A Rainbow Rising tour shirt, in whatever condition, is probably worth a small fortune nowadays.

Hmmm. Nope, Dio must have been '85 then (I don't have it, or any of them with me). It was the Sacred Heart tour and it was at the NEC. Bloody good actually :) , although sadly Viv Campbell had died by then :( RIP RJD too.

Deep Purple was the NEC too. I think it was '85...maybe later? It wasn't the Perfect Strangers tour (Brilliant album), it was the House of Blue Light album tour. The album wasn't great and, to be honest, neither was Blackmore :( (Support: Bad Company!).

I never saw the Scorpions (Loved Tokyo Tapes) or UFO, but I did sing "Doctor, Doctor" in a band at the school rock concert at about 13  (Also "Eye of the Tiger, House of the Rising Sun and Motorhead's "Killed by Death"  )

Bass player eh? Now we know something about you

I wasn't born in 81, so no chance of legitimately beating that.

I think my oldest is a Metallica one from 95. Not been worn for years, and not sure if it will still fit :?
