Something to think about, do you think this photography lark is something you're going to pursue further as you get into it?
If so you're likely to want to upgrade lenses at some stage, and this will mean you are tied to a brand (Nikon stuff wont work with Canon stuff etc).
A lot of people will tell you to only buy Canon or Nikon, which is utter nonsense. The other brands are just as capable.
However, as Canon and Nikon are so much more popular (I believe they take up ~90% of the DSLR market) it means you are more likely to find stuff on eBay.
I would advise to go to Jessops (or similar) and have a play with whats on offer.
Buy the one you like the feel of, because you're the one that has to use it, and don't get too hung up on specifications. One or two extra megapixels wont have too much of a dramatic difference.
As for the video, will you definitely use it?
I wanted it on my first SLR, as I thought it was a good thing to have. I've still never used it.
This is Canons base model, and looks like it should be good enough as a starter.
No idea what Nikons equivalent is.
Buy a Canon, the other brands are sh1t
