Trackday Helmets

Post by prelude_h22 » Wed Aug 21, 2013 10:30 pm

Hi All

Just wondering if I could share your opinions. Looking to buy a helmet as I am looking to do more track days in the future.

The first time I did a track day the helmets weren't very nice, they smelt and were quite dirty.

not looking to spend much and just wondering what you guys have, those of you who do track days of course :)

I was thinking the OMP star or sparco club J1

or are there cheaper more comfortable alternative's

cheers peeps

IMHO as you are in a car just a cheap ebay helmet should do. Mine cost 25£ and has done fine so far.

Which one did you get lewd lude lover? I had a hunt around ebay and saw this one - viper RS-04 which looks like the clubman helmet

Is yours comfortable despite being cheap?

My head measures 57cm and rather confused on which size helmet to get as 57cm tends to fall into either the small or medium size.

A good place to look is at a motorcycle show. There are loads of stalls selling all types of helmets, a lot of which are old stock so very cheap and you get to try them on. Ive picked up helmets from 10 quid before. Check the motorcycle news website for local events.

correct, any old cheap helmet will do, I was given two 2nd hand ones for free so as long as they cover your head and are not a bicycle helmet then jobs a good'un!

I got this one for a couple of personal choice reasons...
clicky

1 I dont like the peak cap look with the three press studs :? never have, never will.

2 you can say its full face when and if you go go-carting. they wont let you on with an open face helmet normally.

3 you can take off the visor and you hane a really really good field of vision and its not too tall to interact with the car.

It is much comfier than the one my mate bought. i found all the fitting i needed to do was press the forehead area in about 3mm for a full comfort fit. my mates (not the one you put link to but very much the same) was too hard and not shaped to a big bonce like mine. I got a large.
I plastered mine with a load of racecar related stickers and BOOM...

I have to be honest, I was 50/50 on whether this was about safety helmets, or about people with redtop Corsa's and 1.1 Corsa brakes who have no spatial awareness. I'm glad it's the former.

Mines a full face OMP one, can't remember how much I paid.

I've used it once.
