Yes, but it is worth considering that if you just swap the galss, you will not get the sliding sun cover, and given you're in a nice sunny climate, you may end up roasting on a daily basis.

P.S. You've gone all scouse again.

Calm down, calm down...
In my car, the entire roof lining section slides out with the roof so it doesn't have a sliding cover. Damn I wish i had a picture. I've got to leave soon but tomorrow I'll take a few photos and show you what I mean. They'll be up first thing, UK time, tomorrow morning.

He means that in a 5th gen, there is an interior sliding roof piece that covers/uncovers the glass. If you just swap out the actual roof piece, you will not get the 5th gen interior sliding roof liner piece so the glass will always be exposed. If you change out the entire mechanism, you can have either a 'window' in your roof, or you can close the curtains.. Get it?

Okay gents - I'm getting a little bit lost here. However, I've got some photos now so perhaps you can distill the information you've shared into 'Idiot Speak' so my addled brain will understand. Here we go...

Here it is in all its rusted surface glory.
Image

Here's another but more of a long-shot along the leading edge
Image

Here's the trailing edge.
Image

Okay, so this is where I'm losing it. This is my sunroof closed.
Image

Opening just a tad - the 'lining' goes with it.
Image

Sliding back, the lining is still 'in the sunroof'
Image

Fully open, here's the horrible part.
Image

So I'm sorry guys but I don't get it. you are absolutely right, in this sun I cannot have a glass sunroof without a blind but I'm thinking my current headlining is the blind. Have I got this completely ass-backwards? I thought if I replaced the metal with the glass it'd just slip into place and my current headlining would remain in place.
I'm so bloody sorry for my stupidity but if anyone has the patience to walk me through this step by step then I would be so deeply grateful.
Thank you, Simon.

The metal one even without the blind bit the sun still wouldnt get through as its a solid piece of metal, on the glass one the blind is a separate sliding part, i have the 5th gen glass in mine without the blind and the sun does shine through, i'll be counter acting against this by having it tinted as dark as possible.

@vtecmec has a guide here on how to keep the sliding blind part. http://www.ludegeneration.co.uk/honda-p ... t4839.html you can also see the differences in his pics as the blind on the 5th has a handle for sliding it back and forward. Glass is the way forward if you feel confident enough to do it as it wont rust like the 4th gens one do.

Sunroof Metal Shell - 4th Gen

Post by simonc » Sat May 16, 2015 5:21 am

@newkid, thank you and you have just confirmed what I thought. You may think I'm overreacting but I simply cannot trust 'mechanics' out here to do that level of work.
I swear mate, it would end in tears. :x
Right, so I'm back to the metal one to reduce stress all round and make sure the end result of Malaysian handiwork does not lead to a disaster.
@indigolemon. I'm back in your hands sir regarding the one you may have as well as the one you mentioned your mate may have lurking. (Colour not important).
Thank you to you all for your patience and understanding on this issue. The info you've given me is excellent. Much appreciated, Si.

Thanks to @Indigolemon, I am (almost) the proud owner of a bobby dazzler roof to replace my rotten old thing.

Hi guys, how do I put that 'Found' thing so it appears on the index page?
