Also it would be silly not to put a new timing belt etc.. on your new engine since it is out of the car and everything is easy to get to.

That's a bit confusing TBH. It will take far less time to rebuild the timing belt side of the existing engine than it will to swap the engine, but your call.
he needs to get the crank seal done too on the old engine, so quite the ball-ache - hence why he is just getting another engine :)

It's just because the mechanic has broke it down to how it is and don't know how to put it together, won't feel comfortable with the engine

Sold my engine already, the new one is getting my new water pump, timing belt etc ;)
