5g full exhaust system

Post by scouse boy » Sat May 09, 2015 2:57 pm

Hi guys,

I'm looking for a nice exhaust system for my 1999Vti. It has the standard exhaust on it but kwik fit have done a rubbish job at fitting a replacement and after several visits it still doesn't sound right. I'm after something with a bit of a roar to it. Let me know what you have.

Craig

The H22a8 the manual 99+ Uk 5th gen has a different length downpipe and CAT so if you bolt on a 1997-1998 exhaust system it will be long. There is little, if any, off the shelf H22a8 exhausts.

IMO the options are; fit a 1997-1998 exhaust and have it a little long, Fit a 4th gen JDM CAT back as Donald did which might need a little work to get it to fit 100% and might be a touch short, fit a whole exhaust system from a 1997-1998 UK H22a5 5th gen (manifold + downpipe + CAT + CAT back), get a custom exhaust made for your car how it currently is, or buy the OEM exhaust from Honda at £362 or £442 with new finishing tips.

Personally I would go for JDM 4th gen one for cheapness or get a custom made one. It wont be as expensive as you think ;) When I looked a local place near me was going to do it for £400. The same place built my custom 3" system on my 4th gen for £600.

I used a company called longlife to fabricate up an exhaust on my old civic coupe, very reasonably priced and came with a lifetime guarantee, they were also more than happy to help when I took it back saying the decat sat too low (more my fault for having the car low than anything) but they still raised it up for me, I can't remember the exact price but it was between 3-400 and they fitted my stainless mani for me too :) when I've got the money will be taking the prelude there too :)

I've had a great 3" custom exhaust fitted to my 5th Gen by Liquid Metal Fabrications in Bicester. Also a Longlife dealer. Sounds great, frees the gases, and value for money. very happy!!

@Merlin I have a Japspeed 421 downpipe that I tried to fit onto my 5G, it came off a 4G originally me thinks but it was too long for my powerflow system with decat i have fitted. The guy I bought the car off mentioned that he swapped the exhaust system off a H22A8 onto my A5. Which part would I need to change to have it fit? Im getting propa confused lol

If you have a full H22a8 exhaust system on your car an new manifold and downpipe will not fit. The H22a8 has a longer down pipe, illustrated by the longer O2 sensor wiring needed. The a8 also has a longer CAT, the mid section is shorter (not a huge amount but noticeable) to offset the difference.

I've got a full system available on a 97 prelude. It has a powerflow backbox, and sounds really nice. Not too loud like alot of powerflow systems ;)
