arch rust
sill rust
5g gearbox issues (if an auto)
oil leaks (big ones, they all have small ones!)
drive it, vtec it, brake reasonably hard (to check for knocks)
check the underneath of the chassis for bodge jobs
as you say, buy off enthusist if poss :)

Check rear brakes (visual check of condition of discs and operational check of handbrake - should only be a couple of clicks before it starts having some effect and should only come up about 5-8 clicks total). If the discs have got bad uneven wear/corrosion, then you're looking at a rear brake overhaul - not difficult or massively expensive if you're doing it yourself, but one to bear in mind and likely to set you back a good few hundred quid if you are paying someone to do the work.

Agreed. Got to have a look at rears on white 5th before I sell it. Luckily it's a job I can do myself.

@az can't give a full breakdown of the sir until it's up for sale. As above need to look at rear brakes first as I think one isn't operating correctly.
