Im thinking about using one of these billet tensioners - i have one here that i recently bought - im going to have a hondatec dude look at it and give me his opinion. They seem to be a good alternative to the hydro/auto tensioner and a lot cheaper.
I can let you know what he says once ive had a chat with him and also where i bought my one from.

You can always make one using an old auto-tensioner

I made one out of a standard tensioner. Bit fiddly to tighten in situ, and it went slack. I bought a billet one from Turkey, via eBay. Was about £25 delivered, came very quickly, looks good although it says "diesel power" or something on it :/
If you are going to change it in situ, invest in a set of crows foot spanners and stubby spanners.

i did spot them ones on ebay did find it strange that they said diesel power think they could do with a dome head bolt on the adjuster though

my engine is currently out on the garage floor so access is pretty good

if the engine is out then id consider doing the full H23 manual tensioner conversion - i think the billet type tensioner is easier to fit when the engine is in the car.

I've fitted two manual billet tensioner now to rebuilds and they are much easier thaN the h23 kit from what I've seen much simpler, the first one was from VTECdirect and was a well made bit of kit cost about £100 but good quality, the second I have recently fitted but not had running yet it's a more basic type still a billet base just a regular bolt and lock nut.. Was from the states and bit cheaper can imagine it will be just as reliable as they don't do a lot once tensioned, just may want to check belt tightness after a few thousand miles... Did about 10000 miles on my VTECdirect one and no issues...

Sounds like a Kaisenspeed one going by the price and quality. I've got one of those and given it to Rich at PAW to fit if he thinks it's needed (Otherwise I'll save it for the next stage

).
