Front brake upgrade

Post by pearsy85 » Sat Mar 14, 2020 8:17 pm

Anyone have a front brake upgrade, I have legend calipers but it all gets too hot on track, I do need to run some ducting, but a set of floating discs or ally calipers would help.

Thanks

You shouldn't be needing ducting depending how long you are on track, What size discs? What pads? Those 2 are the biggest differences in what can be handled.

You need to go up to 300mm really from the accord type r. You'll need the carriers which are hard to get hold of.

I've had no issues with:

Ds2500 pads front and back
Rbf600 fluid
Mtec drilled and groved discs front (300mm) and back (standard)
300 atr twin pot callipers up front.

No ducting, done 3 or 4 track days no issues.

What is your current setup?
'00 UKDM 2.2VTI H22a8
'21 'e' Advance

Front brake upgrade

Post by pearsy85 » Sun Mar 15, 2020 9:34 am

I've got legend calipers (mounted the right way up) and just had the PCD re-rilled, so I have the 28mm thick discs, still the standard 282mm diameter, they are Back diamond discs and there track pads, but after 2 laps of Bedford aerodrome they warp like mad! It might be worth me buying decent discs and pads, as I've not been impressed by them, trying to find some that have curved veins but none seem to.

Car is a bb4 with semi slicks, bilstein B12/eibach springs (back braking dampers), polybushed suspension and that's about it, handles so well on the track, and goes great down the straight, need to find a rear upgraded ARB though, as long sustained corners it will roll a little.

It's just the brakes that hold it back, I was catching new type R civic in the corners, mainly as the AD08's stick like s**t to a blanket , obviously loosing on the staights but not as much as you would think though.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, as I'm gonna do quite a few track days this year, I'll post up here when I do, so I can try and get some more Ludes on track, would be good to meet other Lude owners as I never do, I've had seven over the years but never met another on road or track.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Oh, and I've got 16" wheels as I found it handles better on them opposed to 17".

How easy is the ATR upgrade, there must be better aftermarket for them too, but would they fit under 16's :problem:

Most import part of a brake setup is the tyres which it looks like you have sorted that.
Are they the new AD08RS or old AD08r?

16" wheels will fit over Accord type r brakes.
They are a twin piston caliper with the carries and 300mm discs. Use OEM blank discs. They are more than good enough, slots and holes will more than likely crack or warp.
Get a nice new high temp fluid.

Pads is where it's at though.
Best pads and worst I have ever used is the Hawk HP+. Stopping power a d heat they can handle is incredible however after 3 light stops the wheels are caked in brake dust. For a daily this was too much.
I changed to a Hawk HPS 5.0 and stopping power is about 85% of the hp+ but with zero brake dust issues.

I might try some yellow stuff pads and new fluid, but I'm not convinced on the black diamond discs, if they were performance discs, then they would have curved veins, as they act like a turbine and draw air in, basically like a Flymo,

Just looked into the ATR upgrade and I can't do it, the centre bore is 70mm so works on 5th gen, 4th gen is 64mm

5th gen is 64.1 like the 4th gen and all Hondas. Its just the 4x114.4 vs 5x114.3 that's the issue. You can get discs drilled to fit.

However for now do try different discs and pads.

Looked online and 5th gen and accord are listed as 70mm bore  Yeah I have re-drilled my current discs as the Legend discs are 5 lug.

Definitely 64.1. All Hondas are. Both my 5th gen Lude and S660 are 64.1.
