h22a8 downpipe / decat

I've got a track day booked for this Thursday, only to find my flexi section has started blowing. It's fine driving around town, but it wont take long on the track before the engine movement and intense heat finish it off - and then that leaves me with a wasted track day and a long tow home.

I'd already looked into having a full system made up from scratch, but he cannot fit me in until the week after.

Having looked under the car today, the chance of removing the cat from the downpipe is pretty slim. The bolts are only identifiable by their dental remains.

Ideally someone would have a h22a8 downpipe and decat (or similar) they could part with? Cash and collection naturally as im getting desperate and tight on time to get it sorted.

Thanks in advance, otherwise I think my track day is not looking too hopeful!

@arif_manji noticed you got this on ebay - are you around for collecting at all this weekend?

I find trying to contact people through ebay to be a nightmare - they specifically try to prevent out of ebay deals.

Cheers,

Scott

I have a brand new custom decat pipe from a H22A8. I can get you some measurements and photos later on if you want :)

Vanzep - yes please. That was my next question!

Arif has come through on the DP and I'll go get it tomorrow evening. I do have a decat here, bought for my last 5th gen (h22a5 UKDM) but it was too short so perhaps it's the right size for h22a8 after all!

Entire exhaust is now off the car (with only a handful of swearing involved).

UKDM '99 H22a8 cat is 400mm long exactly (maybe 1 or 2mm under, hard to tell until i completely detach it).

The decat i have here is 349mm long so about 2 inches too short. Balls.

Anyone got a 40cm decat kicking about?

Cheers

Scott

No worries - thanks for checking. The one I have is like this:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/231675250909 - up for grabs if anyone wants it lol.

I've managed to separate the cat from the downpipe and drill and tap out the studs from the old cat. With a handful of new fasteners I should be able to marry it up to arifs downpipe when I collect it tomorrow, and then refit the whole exhaust with the original cat - need a few new rubbers as I cut them to aid removal (things would be so much easier with a lift!).

Track day is Thursday, but i'm off all week. Still need to:

1) Fit the PBS pads front and rear, relube the pins...
2) rebuild spare master cylinder with the new seals, fit, then try my new power bleeder.
3) maybe have a look at the hard brake lines - i don't want to tempt fate as i bet thats more trouble looming.
4) get some michelin pilot sport cup 2 tyres fitted on Monday to my motegi 17s, going to 45profile so should get some comfort back and should get more grip over my aging 595 rsr's.

Cheers to Arif, top chap who let me chew his ear off for far too long about all things prelude. Collected the downpipe and hopefully get it fitted tomorrow and should be all set for the track day on Thursday.

All fitted today - bit of an effort to get it fitted with only about 12 inches of ground clearance and no helping hands. Reused the old sealing rings after wire brushing them and a bit of gun gum to help them on their way.

Fired it up for a few minutes and didn't seem to be leaking at any of the joins. I'll break it in gently to give it time to set properly before going all out on the track day.

Thanks once again for accommodating the earliest collection - a real life saver!
