I may have considered it but its my wifes birthday on the 22nd so doing a dissapearing act will lead to all sorts of problems.

It wasn't the AA scenic route finder was it  I'm in Seaford which is a about third of the way into Sussex from Southampton and I make it 79 miles to the centre of Southampton :) Your'e welcome to a lift, or could convoy it. I'll likely be in my Subaru though, and I may have to bring my dogs if I can't find any obliging family

O.K. guys, sounds like the 22nd is the best date, going on info received thus far. The only question now is preferred location. No -one seems to have objected to either yet, so my next thought is to wether Mayflower Park, Southampton, or Portsdown Hill, Portsmouth is the preferred location. Both are within easy reach of M27 junctions, Mayflower Park may be a disadvantage if there happens to be cruise liners in port due to increased traffic flow. Both have catering facilities and plenty of parking. Portsdown Hill offers panoramic views over Portsmouth harbour and The Solent, if that's your thing. Mayflower Park is near the docks and the liners or commercial shipping may be of peripheral interest. Plenty of old medieval architecture is also local if anybody is interested, oh, and shopping if the other half comes!! P.S. plenty of space at either locale for the dogs, jj.

If I do go, I would prefer Portsmouth as it's closer to me.
