Gallery is offline for maintenance

Quick question.

I added a photo to the banner gallery thingybit the other day, however it doesn't look very good at all in the banner area. The size of the image is larger than/doesn't scale to the allotted dimensions for the banner area (400x120 I think) so it crops the bottom of the image, not the top as I'd hoped.

Is it possible to allow regular users to moderate their own pictures in this area? I think a lot of the images in that directory (forgot what it's called) have this same dimension problem.

EDIT: Forgot to add, I can't remove my own picture from said location. That's the whole reason I wrote the above gibberish

EDIT2: This is what I'm on about with dimensions/cropping.

I had this same problem when I first joined up.
I added a picture and it looked a bit pants when it was in the banner but I couldn't remove it.

Now I'll crop the picture before adding it so that it's roughly the same dimensions.

As long as it's scaleable to 400x120 it should be fine

It should strip equal amounts from the top and bottom the image.
So long as your main image is central, all should be good.
We do sometimes get some abstract images come through, which still look cool

Just a quick something.

I know you've gotten rid of the gallery but is this permanent? Or have you just made it inaccessible but all the content is still there? If it's still there but just well hidden then the next bit is irrelevant maybe.

Using Pushki as an example, when you go to his profile you can still see the gallery thumbnails. The first two images I'm going to assume where part of a personal gallery as when you click the image to enlarge it redirects to this thread, but the other 3 I'm guessing were in the banner folder and this section is still available/online to a certain extent? These images you can still enlarge, but only to 400x??? sizes. It's not even an issue really though since I can't figure out a way to link them...

I'm just bored really

Apologies for the inconvenience. The gallery is/was just using up far too much bandwidth.

We tried to put measures in place to reduce the bandwidth usage, but regrettably, the measures had little effect.

Yep, Banner pics are still on server as I plan to use a different method of publishing.

Personal gallery pics have been removed from server but are still available for the next month or so if anyone needs to retreive any unique content.

Would it be worth having a new gallery/picture sub forum for people to upload stuff from photofuckit?

This wouldn't take up our bandwidth (or would it? I don't actually know).
