So, as the bonnet stood, it was looking like this...

Image

The first job of the day was to remove the bonnet spoiler. This took me over an hour and a half!!! ...

Image

That Stixall certainly sticks fast! I left part of the spoiler behind...

Image

And not only that, but it was causing the spoiler to peel apart! :? ...

Image

Image

Fortunately I had already decided not to put it back on afterwards. I was never completely sure about it, and I now think I may go down another route that won't work with a bonnet spoiler in place.

So anyway, back to the bonnet. I had this on the underside to cover up...

Image

I started by grinding back the bulk of the Gripfill...

Image

Cut a piece of fibreglass to suit...

Image

And laid it down with resin...

Image

After it dried I could roughly sand it back...

Image

Before applying filler...

Image

And giving it a further sand once dry...

Image

I then primed it with high build primer (Obviously not worrying about this side being perfect  )...

Image

Before blending it back in with the rest of the underside...

Image

Meanwhile, I decided I didn't want to refit my modified grill. It closes up the gap more than I wanted, so I took this...

Image

And some of these...

Image

To do this...

Image

And then with these...

Image

I could do this...

Image

I plan to get a thin profile cut and painted body colour to sit under the washers and finish it off nicely.

Now back to the bonnet...

Filler went on...

Image

And then sanded back (And fitted, because I forgot to take a picture ;) )...

Image

Next up was to remove the plastidip. Unfortunately it didn't do exactly what it said on the tin (Possibly as I hadn't applied it thick enough), so it didn't peel. It would however rub off once started, but I quickly learnt that white spirit worked a treat :) ...

Image

Image

Once removed you could see exactly why I opted to cover it up ;) ...

Image

The bonnet was removed again to fill these holes...

Image

And have a final sand down...

Image

Gratuitous engine bay shot...

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Then with the bonnet all clean and dry...

Image

High build and filler primer was applied...

Image

Then refitted to the car all ready for its temporary paint job :) ...

Image

One final prep before paint on saturday at work (I was getting our painter to do it for a bit of cash in hand) ;) ...

Image

And then just yesterday I picked her up again. And the moment of truth :scaredtoss: ...

The paint was supposed to be matt black, however its come out slightly glossy and with that looks like a really poor atempt at a colour match  There are a few areas I need to give my attention to, namely the blend line on the passenger side where I've sanded a bit too much, and a few pits and where the paint has reacted slightly over the driver's side bond line, so I'm hoping to address these before Simply Jap at Beaulieu this weekend coming, so it'll most likely have some more Plastidip on it, bonnet bra styley, but other than that, I'm very happy with how it's turned out :D
