Getting properly stuck in there
Yep, the slider pins just slide in, so don't be worried about twisting them back/forth with mole.grips. They can be a complete bitch though, I had to give up on one of mine and put on a replacement (second hand) pad carrier.
Those back brakes look about as bad as I've seen em, but they'll recover ok.
You could get away without taking the pistons out of the calipers I'm sure, but of course it won't hurt to give them the proper overhaul you're doing. The biggest problem there will have been lack of movement of the pads within the pad carriers though (and the seized handbrake cable pivot).
After seeing at them, I suggest you give the discs a good rub over with emery cloth too, before you reassemble everything.
£100 doesn't buy you a lot of labour for the welding and they'll no doubt need to cut out more than you can see, so yeah, that looks ok money to me.

Re: JC's 94 JDM SI-Vtec
I'm going to take the calliper bracket to work and stick it in a vice to aid the slider pin removal, crossed fingers.
Was going to replace the discs but there's plenty of meat on rears so hopefully the old ones will clean up.
I thought that as it came out of the seal, it's clean and smooth but the seal was looking a little tired and I'm going to go through all 4 like this anyway, just to be sure. Bought this car to eventually have some fun in so I want to know she's going to stop!wurlycorner wrote:You could get away without taking the pistons out of the calipers I'm sure, but of course it won't hurt to give them the proper overhaul you're doing.

Re: JC's 94 JDM SI-Vtec
Managed to get the other rear caliper and bracket off in the week, aided by (mainly a hammer
) a cheeky desk lamp wedged up in the inner arch to provide illumination as I didn't manage to sort out the lead lamp till Fri.

Put all the saveable nuts, sliders, shims etc in gunk and started to try and clean the brackets.

At least the sun was shining today whilst I did the fronts

All parts are now drying after being cleaned (don't look that clean in the pics but compared to how they did look.....), I took a drill-mounted-circular-wire-brush-thingy to the brackets as they are going to be painted tomorrow. Hopefully I'll get chance to clean and paint the calipers too, then I'm ready for the arrival of the new seal kits from Brakes International (tues) and hopefully recon slider pins from h10ndr (when he answers the pm
)
Only mangled one slider and rounded one bolt over all four brakes so fairly happy with that.

Does anyone know where I can get a new/decent quality second hand rear caliper bracket bolt (the one that holds the carrier to the hub assembly, not the caliper to slide pin)???
Failing that, anyone with one lying around that would be willing to stick it in the post for me?
Cash transfer/paypal waiting.

Re: JC's 94 JDM SI-Vtec
So here's what I've been up to this last week or two.
Brakes before;

Brakes cleaned;

Old pistons (glad I had them all out now @wurleycorner);

And as they are at the moment with new pistons, slider pins, seal kits etc

Hopefully will get the brakes back on and maybe bled tomorrow, got to get the drop links fitted first as I cut the old ones off earlier today.

Had to use a bit of grey matter too as there was still a bit of bolt left in the anti-roll bar, the ratchet was to hold the bolt still whilst I ground the rest off.

Caught the anti-roll bar a bit with the grinder so just painted any bare metal with a bit of black metal paint I had lying around the shed, left it over night to dry and will do the new drop-links in morning.

I know, I thought about black on black but I'd also like to be different n I've seen a few black ludes with black wheels so I've got another idea, we'll see if works!preludemanh22 wrote:blacklooks nice on them alloys
