Rear plate lenses, weatherstrip, cam cover

Post by bennyboy » Sun Apr 27, 2014 10:07 pm

Right, little update.

Decided today was EL DIALS DAY! except, it wasn't. :x
When I looked at the stuff I'd acquired, it turns out the loom was from a prefacelift and had been.....amended somewhat.
Probably could have patched it up and used it, but decided to source a UK EL loom and tackle some other jobs instead.

First up - Rear number plate light lenses

Pretty grubby huh (and they have been washed recently!)
Image

Gave them a soak in some washing up liquid and Flash, and then a going over with a toothbrush and some hob brite
TBH, anything slightly abrasive would do, even toothpaste.

AFTER:

Much better 8-)

So we cant have the old number plate looking like this anymore:

So finally fitted the new plate I've had sitting around...

So another annoying bit, the rear window weatherstrip. Finally starting to give up.

BEFORE:

Soureced a new one thanks to @newkid, AFTER:

Then on to the rocker and spark plug covers.
Rich kindly sprayed the cam cover PAW orange when he did the engine, that was nearly two years ago now :o so needed a clean up. Most of all, I wanted to tart up the plug cover where it had been scuffed by the sagging bonnet heat shield thingy (now sorted)

BEFORE:
Image

Not terrible, but needing some tlc. I have toyed with various plug cover ideas, like phantom grey to macth the car etc, but in the end I used a 'shaved' cover and sprayed it matte black, with a nicely positioned PAW logo.

The cam cover got a spray with wynns carb cleaner to take the crap off, the DOHC and VTEC got a light sand then the whole lot got a going over with some t-cut. Couldn't spend hours on it, but much tidier I think youll agree:

Also fitted a little mat holder, but it's not very interesting to look at!

Hope you like. With any luck the next update will be the EL dials....
