Good morning, Iain. Here's the VIN plate of M334 SWP and hadn't noticed the 'ENG' stamp before. My Malaysian Prelude didn't have a red-top originally either, that was another tweak of mine.

If the manifold cover isn't rusty, just 'tarnished' (that's how it looks?) it would probably polish up nicely without needing to be re-finished? It's mild steel, but plated with nickel (or something) from factory. If it can be polished, that would look better than painting.
Excellent advice, Iain. Many thanks.
By the way, are those two upper bolts bolts the only things that hold it on, or are there any hidden ones? I'd like a bash at doing it myself.

My mistake, I'm talking crap apparently - red top was only on the Type S and Euro-R versions that were badged as H22A (confusing badging considering those two aren't actually the same as the OG H22A's) as well as the H22A7 and H22A8.

That sorry looking heat shield is annoying me. I'm adding that to list of 'things-to-be-spruced-up' :D

I have derusted and painted a couple of heat shields using hi temp silver spray paint and they look good years on.
3 bolts to get the heatshield off ;)

From looking at your vin i would say it is number 26 off the production line in 1994 when the prelude was given a mid generation face lift :)

@vanzep. Good morning, buddy and thanks for the heat shield tip. I reckon even a man of my limited capabilities can have a bash at sprucing it up. I also want to paint the rocker cover insert thing which will look rather sexy in a satin black.
That's a nice little insight on the VIN by the way. Ta.

Morning, all and hope you're all enjoying the sunshine. I got my arse into gear yesterday and worked on the spark plug lead cover and I'm really chuffed with how it looks. :D
