Changed the oil today woop :D

Went to remove the exhaust manifold first to do the heat wrap, and a) one bloody bolt sheared off  Looks like the garage fitted it at an angle. And b) the nut I went to put back on has threaded the bolt  So thats two bust nuts

So now the exhaust is leaking is slightly, so its a trip to the garage tomorrow to remove the bolts and replace them

Bit pissed off but at least its not a huge problem

Booo, common one that. Soak 'em in WD40 (or even better, penetrating oil) and leave for a good couple of hours before tackling them. Also, as soon as you feel it getting tight, reverse the ratchet and tighten it up a couple of turns - then try going back again. Takes ages - but should avoid any shearing if you stick at it.

Also, I'm fully aware this post contained the following words:
- penetrating
- tight

Nice!! I wondered what a silver cooling plate would look like on my car. 8-)
It looks like a perfect colour match.

As a finishing touch you should either paint or replace those two rusty bolts. :nono:

Definately! I'll be spraying the black plastic bits silver as well :) I also need to remove a load of sheared bolts, such as those for the radiator brackets (one sheared when I was loosening it! Almost pure rust now).

Lots left to do yet bud :) Having the heat wrap put on tomorrow for £20 ;) Weathers a bit crap and I don't want to risk more problems with the new bolts the garage has fitted, so he kindly said he'd do it for me.

The catch can arrived, but its too bloody big to fit anywhere! I'll have to see what the intake chamber is like and if it warrants a catch can, if its horrendous then I'll have to fit it somewhere (or get an uber small one), if not I can sell it on to someone who has more space in the engine bay

On a lighter note, had the heat wrap fitted. Seems a bit cooler but who knows.

Had a chat with the mechanic, the annoying whistling noise "could" be the flexipipe in the exhaust, as one of the brackets isn't there any engine movement causes the entire exhaust to move. At this point any idea is a good one, and I haven't thought of that so I'll be replacing that bracket asap!

Is this the bracket that bolts to the back of the block? I'd avoid fitting that man, the welds on the ebay manifolds tend to shear and leave a nice hole :(

Yeah the bracket that sits on the downpipe, at the 2-1 bit. Well, least I can do is *test* the idea. If the noise goes away I know what causes it and can get the welds reinforced (I hope?).

Cheers for the heads up :)

Great work Jay!

What is your opinion on having lower strut braces on lowered preludes?? I read on one of the post that it ruined your handling and something bad happened? :) I'm getting some soon so just wanted some heads up :D
