Re: Drax's Road & Track Lude *New purchases p5

Thanks to Dave for the FM shortshifter, was eager to get it fitted along with the new knob :geek: as the old one looked to be a shifter that had been cut down at some point :? and so nothing really fitted to it.

First took off the plastic cover by undoing the 8 screws, 4 either side, and also undid the old knob
Image

was a bit crumby down there, lots of dust, hair (dog!), glass (car was a Cat C one owner before i bought it) and general bits of crap so cleaned all the underneath up, then proceeded to undo the two 10mm bolts (would be only 1 on a regular shifter) holding the linkage and current ebay shortshifter down from the shaft (giggidy)
Image

Once that was off an loose, i took off the four 12mm bolts holding the shifter platform in place, which meant you can lift it up and around to a certain degree. again i cleaned up all underneath as it was pretty rank.
Image

next bit was quite fiddly, getting this 10mm nut and bolt off
Image

as you have to hold one end with a spanner and use the ratchet on the other end so it doesnt continue to rotate, otherwise it wont come off - the bolt faces towards the front of the car like so under the shifter
Image

once thats undone, it just pulls out of the adjacent linkage
Image

then reverse what you've done to put in the new shifter
Image

and once all bolted back together with the cover on, it looks soooOOO much nicer with the DC2 knob 8-)
Image

at this point it was only mid afternoon and the wife still hadnt gone into labor yet (she was due friday) so i thought id continue on and cut out holes for the oil temp and oil pressure gauges ready for wiring
Image

was quite the ballache  as i have no vice (or even a workshop yet) so big ass scissors and a plyers eventually did the trick

Great work Dan, I know how keen you were to get your knob sorted, although from what I gather there isn't much wrong anyway

If you need anything you know where I am bud, good luck. ;)

Good work, still gutted I've not picked an FM shifter up for my lude.
Came so close a month ago and the guy sold the whole lude with it on. :(

Good work though, let us know what you think of it.

Excellent!
Did you have to cut a little from the plastic gear surround when fitting on the shortest throw? I noticed mine caught slightly and I had to cut a little notch out

A lude is always in for a good wash :)
Especially is this kinda wether.

Don't your hood locks rust from such a wash ?
I got Aerocach hood fasteners, which are made out of plastic.
