Farlow's 5th gen Motegi

Well as promised I thought I'd better start a project thread for my lude. It's currently in a state of disrepair with some slight crash damage but I have every intention of someday having it fully rebuilt and back on the road as a weekend / show / track car.

The first part of this thread is going to be copied over from lude behaviour so I can show the project from the beginning rather than from its current state. So first off this is what my lude looked like when I bought it in 2007.

At the time the car cost me £4000 which seems like a lot nowadays but back then that's what they were going for. This particular example was family owned from new and had only 51000 miles on it. There were still a couple of issues that needed sorting out but nothing major.

I replaced the headlights as the were badly faded and fitted some clear side repeaters but other than that the car stayed pretty much as it was for the first few years of ownership. After spending some time on the forums however I saw there was quite a bit on my car that could be improved on. I was mainly interested in what it looked like rather than how fast it went so I set about searching eBay for the parts I wanted.

First up honeycomb grill.

Image

Managed to get this one cheap as it was missing the badge but I decided I didn't like it without one so I stuck the honda badge on from the boot lid.

Next up, red seats and carbon dash parts.

Looking back now the red seats look quite odd against the completely stock grey interior but I sorted this out later on. After the seats I managed to get hold of a JDM rear bumper and had that sprayed up and fitted. It was also around this time I got the rear tints done I think.

Next job was to tackle the wheels. At the time I wasn't really in to swapping the wheels to aftermarkets so I had the stock motegi's refurbed. I also painted the calipers up and bought some honda decals off eBay.

I was pleased with the job on the wheels, they were done at Romax in Stockton for anyone who's interested, I'd definitely recommend them.

Anyway that's it for now, I'll continue to update this thread throughout this week until it's completed up to the present day.

Looks good Farlow. I bought mine at about the same time and was also £4000. I think your's was a better deal as that is low mileage for a manual in black. Mine was just over 80,000 miles but had a few goodies that made it really stand out.

Looking forward to seeing all the changes now.

Thanks mate, there's plenty more to come even before I start on my current plans.

Well mine was up for £4500 but I drive a hard bargain so that might have made the difference.

You and @SPYDOR have owned your 5ths for a fair old while then...good to know there's other long-term guardians (irresponsible   or not ) out there :)
Cheers fella, yeah long term is definitely the word but I don't ever plan on selling the lude so I might as well take my time. It is heartbreaking seeing her in her current state though. I'm gonna have to really make the effort to get my garage finished and get some work done on my projects.

Thanks sam, it seems the tables have turned, I'm now taking inspiration from your lude. It was looking spot on at the meet, I really want a set of those sideskirts.

Interior continued...

As I said previously I found the the red seats alone looked a little odd against the rest of the black/grey interior so I was looking to continue the JDM red interior swap. Fortunately I managed to find someone breaking one in the uk so got all the parts I wanted as a job lot for a decent price. The main items were door cards, centre console and sun visors.

I was also looking for an accord type r momo steering wheel so when a red one came up on eBay that matched my interior I had to have it. At the time it was the only one I'd ever seen but I have seen a couple since. None in as good nick as this one though.

It needed a little bit of fettling to fit but nothing to difficult. The prelude wheel had an extra cut out on the bottom of the boss that wasn't there on the accord wheel. Firstly I just marked out where it needed to be cut with a paint pen.

Image

The set about it with a grinding stone fitted to my die grinder.

Until it looked something like this

This is what it looked like on the car

To finish of the interior I bought a Spoon Sports duracon shifter but I couldn't get the stock gaitor to sit right. I ended up buying a password JDM gaitor to fit a 88-91 DA Integra from the states and making it fit. It just to say stretched over the stock surround then I reused the original staples to hold it in position. Unfortunately I have no pics of this but here's one I took this morning of it finished (sorry bout the messy interior, car hasn't been driven let alone hoovered for over a year)

And of the complete interior

As you can see the steering wheel is a perfect match and it all looks like it's meant to be now with the rest of the red parts. I purposefully kept the black dash and carpets as I prefer them and I think it makes more of a contrast between the two.

Feel free to let me know what you think.

That steering wheel should have been in the Prelude from factory, it is perfect with that interior! Good effort ;)
