BB1 Scrapyard Dog-Sill inspection and new fwing

Post by vanzep » Thu Jul 25, 2019 7:08 pm

I have never inspected the sills on this car - so after 3 years owbership decided to take a brave pill and go for it :)
I was also planning on replacing the front wing as it had many stone chips and scratches and a bubble or two of rust.
Here is what i found:

Sill was ok so removed leaves and mud and cleaned it up.
Sprayed 2 cans of anti rust cavity wax inside the full length of the sill - quick bit of derust at the back corner, bit of bodyfiller and some paint.
Sideskirt refitted using new clips.

Front wing area had the same leaves and crud and some small areas of rust. All treated and painted and new front wing fitted.

Also had a look at the butterfly valve in the resonator part of the intake under the front wing. Saw it was rusty - looked a bit closer and saw the metal shaft the operates the butterfly was snapped clean off.
So i decide to remove the resonator. Car sounds and goes a bit better now :)
Will need to come back to the intake when i decided if im staying stock or replacing it with a long arm true cold air kit or something that actually adds power ;)

Not a bad afternoons work but still got the other side to go.
Paint match on the front wing is perfect.

Got the passenger side done earlier today :)
The sideskirt was full of mud and stones but the sills themselves cleaned up with a quick wipe of a cloth - was a bit surprised that there was zero corrosion  :D
Also fitted the new front wing.

BB1 Scrapyard Dog PLM & EIBACH

Post by vanzep » Thu Aug 08, 2019 6:04 pm

Making good progress.
Front sub frame has been notched ready for the PLM manifold.
Ive mocked the new exhaust parts up on a spare H22a head - just trying to work out how to mate it up to the 60mm centre section once the oem cat is removed. Think ive got it covered :? :)
The Eibach Springs have arrived - so i can fit them to the OEM shocks and see a 25- 30mm drop all round or might possibly wait until i have a found a set of Koni Sports as they are a brilliant combo :)
