BB1 Scrapyard Dog - SORN

Post by Hagland-BB4 » Fri Feb 05, 2021 9:01 pm

Looking forward to seeing this put back on the road vazep. I still have my rear speed sensor to do on my white one which I keep putting off, once that's done it might go up for sale

BB1 Scrapyard Dog - Back in Black

Post by vanzep » Thu Mar 25, 2021 6:25 pm

ive done my usual tinkering trying to fix small niggles & issues with mixed results
i am still do the jobs for the mot and im trying my best to put them off for the time being :)
so today i had a go at fixing the leaking fitv in the throttle body again - first time it was still leaking so took it off 2nd time and tightened it - must have overdone that and now the fitv barely works on start up :x
got to say Honda know how to put things together but the fitv could have been put the other way round - if it had then the fitv could be easily adjusted without the need to take the throttle body on and off. Anyway looks like im going to have a 3rd attempt......
So cheered things up by doing my first valve clearance and decided to swap the blue rocker back to black.
Got a sore back after doing the valve clearance but pleased with the black rocker :D

BB1 Scrapyard Dog - Back in Black

managed to get the rear anti roll bar drop links replaced and new roll bar mounts fitted. I have gone for OEM on both counts :) Not too happy to find the drop links didnt really need replaced - MOT tester said it was an advisory but like i say only a tiny bit of play on one side. I spent a day trying to get the drop link off in situ only to hit a brick wall and then when i removed the whole roll bar i found the aftermarket (tegiwa) drop links didnt have a allen key slot in them so no way they could have been removed without damaging them. At least the new OEM ones have an allen key slot which may prove useful in the future.
Next up is passenger side driveshaft and a bit of work on the handbrake. That should be all it needs for MOT.

one thing i noticed is the quality of the 4th gen zebra mats - they are mega heavy and about twice the weight of the 5th gen ones
Yep, the zebra ones have a rubber grippy backing on them, which makes them much more heavy/solid.
The UKDM 4g mats (no rubber backing) are the same weight as the 5g mats.

Just caught up on this.

Hope you get the car back on the road soon - one bonus I guess is that it's been safe from nasty road salt over the winter!

What's the fault with your DSP unit?
The one in my JDM BB1 has had partial faults since I've had it (radio etc plays fine and you can randomly sometimes change some functions on the DSP but not others - including not able to control the CD player). Not something I've got round to looking at...

cheers all - just got the driveshaft and brakes to do and the plan is to get it back on the road and thru the mot for start of May. Yes no salt on the lude this year which is always a good thing. :)
I will have to look again at the dsp - the lower unit stopped working and no sound so swapped units over with the spare dsp set- both units of dsp now working but only very very faint sound - not sure what to look at but i guess it will be something to do with wiring or fuses etc all of which im no use at - i cant have blown all the speakers. Any help would be appreciated as i like the oemness on the dsp stuff. :geek:

BB1 Scrapyard Dog - New Ass JDM Style

Post by vanzep » Fri May 21, 2021 2:57 pm

I traded some nice H22 parts (going into a eg civic) for some painting.
I have heard that the H22 swap into the eg civic worked out well and is very fast and the owner is pleased with the results.
In return he has painted front and back bumpers for me.
Here are some pics of the jdm back bumper in phantom grey along with a brand new bumper bar. I should be getting these fitted once ive got the car back on the road. Pictures dont really show how good the paint work on the rear bumper looks. Its like a brand new part so im delighted. :)
