Re: The OEM Prelude
Picked up the car and a smooth drive home on a seriously congested M1.
When I got the car I was in for a very pleasant surprise. I'd asked Pulleyn's about the engine cover and Marshall Honda had kindly offered to do it on their tab, but, it looked like they'd be out of time to do it, so I said leave for the moment and I'll keep my bonnet shut at JapFest
To open the bonnet and see this....
Seriously pleased, (feels like a new engine, hehe)
Also little things needed doing,
Interior lightbulb and boot light needed changing, some LED bulbs from the net, let their be light, well a little bit of light anyway.
Also my unruly boot springs needed that plastic clip thingy...
I've found http://www.lingshondaparts.com/ to be useful for finding little odds and ends, such as the boot thing and also plastic clips for the rubber mouldings on the bonnet, (the ones that lie over the headlights).
Bit of wax today, not a proper clean, (I've a day off before JapFest to give it a liquid clay, polish, extra gloss protection and then cannuba, it's a Meguiars 3 stage thing and the Autoglym protection). Going around the car their is still much to be done, little odds and ends to maintain and improve appearance, at some point i'd like to refurb the alloys as well.
That said it doesn't look bad and after spending over 5K I'm very pleased, it's a smooth drive, pulls nicely and even though it's a 5G it looks the part, (seeing all the beautiful 4Gs on the forum makes me nostalgic for my old Preludes, but, I do love the 5G).
I changed my door defenders to the one piece longer versions.
Fingers crossed the weathers good on Friday for a proper clean inside and out.
P.S. Bloody skint now!

Re: The OEM Prelude - Rustbuster update, (a lot of pics!!!)
Drove up early Thursday morning to Spalding, Lincs.
Car booked for rust treatment, including wheel arch protection. 2 days required and a shed load of photos taken by them.
Details can be found here, http://www.rust.co.uk/we-rust-proof-you ... 50/c32734/
It's about 5 miles out from Spalding and feels like it's in the middle of nowhere....
Their workshop:
Felt sorry for the lad with the Skyline. He was under the impression it was relatively mint, took it to Rustbuster's only to discover he's been sold a rotten lemon requiring repairs way outside of his budget. He's going to be doing battle with the importer.
The Jag had a seriously rotten floorpan.
This old Alfa was heading to the graveyard, beyong saving, engine mounts disintegrated and engine about to fall out!
Must confess alll these tales started to get me worried.
So the whole process started and these are the pics taken.
Apologies for the quantity of pics or lack of any technical explanation.
Whilst all this was going on I was wandering around Spalding...
Got a phone call telling me of this wee hole!
Permission to weld granted. Thankfully no other issues.
Meanwhile I'm still wandering around Spalding...
Back to the Prelude:
I'd taken up residence at the 'man creche'
More Spalding just to break it up a bit, pleasant place and stayed over at a cheap pub/hotel.
Meanwhile back at Rustbusters...
And finally...
So full rust treatment, wheelarch protection and the bit of welding came to £648.
A lot of money, but, given I lack the time, (pretty much work 6 days a week in my job at the Hospital, NHS is disintegrating before my eyes, sorry I might rant so I'll stop there), experience and space to perform such a job, I preferred to hand it over to an expert.
For the work done over 2 days I personally think it was a more than reasonable price. They're are friendly crew and Rob dealt with me very professionally, and did his best to explain the procedure to a numpty, me that is.
I wish I'd done this years ago, glad I've done it now. Gives me confidence that the Prelude has many many years left on the road.
Rustbusters, (rust.co.uk) - highly recommended.

Re: The OEM Prelude - Rustbuster update, (a lot of pics!!!)
Yeah, def:
"Your car is steam cleaned using Rustbuster CHLOR-X salt remover."
"Once dry any loose rust or coatings are removed from the vehicle underside using hand toold and MBX Bristle Blaster."
Rob did explain the ginger appearance, but can't remember now what he said.
Alternatively you could be looking at the 'before' pics

It's the fe-123-rust-converter treatment that turns it that ginger colour, Rob said it makes it look worse. I guess that's the bit that requires curing overnight? Then Dinitrol 4941 Black underbody wax the following day.
