The improvement thread - Free Ranj Eggs H22a8

Post by Free Ranj Egg » Mon Sep 12, 2016 7:01 pm

Hello fellow luders.

I have decided that as I am now in a position to throw money at my car for improvements, I should start a build thread.

Be warned its nothing extravagent like some of the cars on this forum, but its a start.

There's alot of knowledge on this forum so I will be at time to time picking brains that are bigger and better than mine.

Along time ago before the age of digital cameras I used to own a black J Reg BB1 2.2 Import Prelude which was an automatic. As good as that car was I always regretted not buying a manual. Time went on and I went back to driving Golfs.

Since moving here from Melbourne I have only ever owned 2 cars, Golf and Ludes.

My first car was a Mk2 Golf Oak Green J Reg 5 door runout edition with a 16v engine and the rainbow interior. Once that went the J Reg prelude was next. Kept that for a few years and then brought a mk3 16v Golf when I got my licence back. After a few years, I purchased a dragon green VR6 and now I own the Lude.

I have had this car the longest and I absolutely love it. It was December in 2011 and I was having a mooch on Ebay when I came across the car I now own.

It had full service history, around 133k on the clock and it was advertised as having some type of vibration to the engine.

The starting bid was £850. I was back and forth with the guy (I believe his forum name was Gillywig2) and to my surprise I was the only one who bidded on the vehicle.

I went down to collect the car somewhere down south and to my surprise I even got 3/4 of a tank of fuel.

When I brought the car, it had a lightened flywheel which is still on today, a stainless steel gear knob which I think is a MOMO, Red door inserts which I believe came from a Type S. The other mods done to the car was a S2000 steering wheel. The dials have silver surrounds which may have been a factory option.

The car was used primarily as it was and since having the car over the last 4 years, the following work has been done.

- Radiator replaced.
- Full service, including HT Leads, plugs, fuel filter, and timing belt.
- Rear Pads - Ferodos
- Regular oil and filter changes.

Recently the front angle sensor has been replaced and as well as the Cruise control actuator.

Things that will be done over the next month.

- Skunk 2 exhaust purchased from Ryan86 will be going onto the car.
- Tanabe Springs purchased from Prelude Danny will also be fitted.
- Cross Drilled and Vented disks and pads to be replaced. (front).
- Decat
- Electic folding mirrors from Evildmen
The plans I have for the car for next year is sorting the rear arches, and I want a set of EP3 Civic R alloys.

Other plans include the tried and tested Accord R Mani, after market ECU, Exhaust Mani and LSD Gearbox.

I just want to say a big thank you to a mate of mine Lee @evildmen who has done some of the work on my car and is always around to offer me advice.

I have taken some quick pictures, nothing too exciting, and will update the thread as I get the work done.

Peace!!

Ranj

There will always be bills to pay mate, I figured if I didn't start working on the car now I will never do it.

Being a forum like this helps because second hand parts come up which does help as you don't end up paying full price for a brand new item.

Yes, you are right, and there's also parts that are becoming non available, it is a problem i met with my 3rd gen ludes
But the other side of forums like here is that seeing modified cars give us the temptation to do the same things... and usually dig the "money pit" deeper

Update - The skunk 2 exhaust and Tanabe lowering springs went in yesterday.

Fap me the exhaust is loud. Its decatted as well as for some reason it didnt seem to fit. Has anyone had any unwanted attention with a SS exhaust from the police?

Also the springs went in but the doesnt look as if its lowered. It just feels abit more stiff.

Pics to follow and next month the clutch and lsd box are going in

As for springs - let them settle in. It usually takes around 2-3 weeks until you see the real drop.

As for exhaust - I've been reading in other forums tha megapower is indeed one if the loudest out there, but I have no facts to prove it though.
