Ratty's Type S...Supercharged

Post by RattyMcClelland » Wed Jun 26, 2019 9:39 pm

I only started burning oil after the issues of small exhaust and flooding the engine so no idea why its burning much. I did notice its only the top of the combustion and not the lower bores.
The oil catch can was getting filled but not full by any means and the intake is clean. Its a stock pcv setup.
Rich says these engine head rely alot on splash lubrication so the reduced oil flow would lessen that.

The crank isnt getting reground, just polished. All the journeys are still in spec and bearings are fine although they will be renewed.

Wow! Well that sucks! Especially after so many endeavours on getting so many niggles sorted. Just a good job you're minted ay?

I'm so happy to see you're sticking with it. So glad to see you're going down the NA route as well!

Are still going to incorporate the water injection?

That's what I figured. The water tank relocation was pre-knackered engine then?

Sorry to hear about this but at least you are taking the positives out of it, and going for an N/A build is more in keeping with the what the car is anyway

In terms of the money spent, don't worry about it, it's only money

You went in with your eyes open, if you put these engines under pressure with superchargers or turbos there is an increased likelihood of failure.

Yer im quite excited to drive it again.

Maybe the s660 has taught me about lightness and the fun it brings so i cant wait to have my strut bar back (makes a huge difference on this chassis) on the front and 35kg of less weight over the engine plus 10kg in water injection setup removed.

I hopefull to have it back beginning of august and then to decide if the lude or s660 is comming to jae. I want both there.

You're just growing up Ratty! Starting to appreciate driving, rather than numbers! ;)

Joking aside, first and foremost I am gutted for you mate, it's never nice when stuff like this happens.
Have to say though, -personally-, I just can't see any long lasting appeal of FI on these cars (and in my little world I REALLY hope @nitin_s1 doesn't 'charge his... :? :shh: ), I think they shine when they are allowed to be a better version of what they are, a high revving NA engine in a great chassis. Maybe you can see why I always wanted what I called 'Lude+' - the same thing it always was but just with slightly more modern numbers.
My lude is a toy these days, it does about 2k a year, but I can honestly say it's an event to drive it now. As you said about the S660, it reminds you of what you always liked about driving and the reason we bought these cars in the first place. 8)
The numbers and the outright speed on paper doesn't bother me at all, the bottom line is it's more than quick enough to get you into jobby or lose your licence and in a few years EVERYTHING will be quicker off the mark anyway with the great march of electric....
To me it's about usable power, getting the most from it.

Onwards and upwards my good man, very best of luck with the new setup. :)

That's what was great about the charger. Instant response but over 150lbft of torque at 2000rpm and rising very sharply. The throttle was more like a linear boost controller.
But since vtec kicked in at 3200rpm you never yearn for it or feel it or really hear it. Still revved to 8krpm.

I did miss working for the power.

I know you're going for higher numbers than mine, but my VTEC crossover is at 3,800rpm, believe it or not, with the limit at (I think from memory) 8.5k, possibly even 8.8k, I'd have to check.
