Merlin's H22a8 5th Gen

Post by Merlin » Thu Jul 07, 2022 9:50 am

Here it is at last, my new 5th gen. It was previously owned by Doggo and is essentially the same car as my last 5th gen. It's a 1999 H22a8 4WS with the usual heated seats and wing mirrors.

It looks shiny in the pics as Vanzep took his polisher to it and it came up well. The paint is in ok condition, but it really needs to be sorted out a bit better. There are the usual scuffs and dings you'd expect on a car this age but I hope to get all of that sorted once it has an MOT and is on the road.

The short term plans for this car is to get it on the road in the next month or so. I have a massive pile of new parts, as well as all the goodies from my last car (JDM fogs, black titanium, clock bezels strut braces etc...), and off the top of my head it's getting (more of a list to remind myself ;) ):

New timing belt & balance belts
H23 manual tensioner
Balance shaft retaining clip
Water pump
Valve clearance adjustment
Spark plugs
Rocker cover gasket and plug seals
Power steering pump
ATR front calipers, discs and pads
new rear discs and pads
Goodrich braided brake hoses
Rear wheel bearings
MeisterR Zeta S coil overswith rear damper adjustment extensions
17" OZ Racing Formula HLT with 215/45/17 Michelin Pilot Sport 4's
and a new double Din head unit
JDM rear bumper swap
Mugen copy rear spats

A wee JDM love in with Vanzep's 5th gen and my new work/shop van, the Suzuki Carry.

My last 5th gen is still on my driveway and being stripped, the rust was just too much to keep going with it and at a time in my life where I had no money or time to keep it going. I'll update the 4th gen's profile with how that's going.

The white one belongs to Vanzep ;)

I'm am finally getting around to installing bits. So far, rear coil overs and new wheel bearings have been installed, as well as painting the calipers and disc guard. I'm not doing a great job on the rear calipers, just the bits that can be seen  On Wednesday the calipers are getting new slider boots, pins & clips, plus new discs and braided brake hoses.

The obligatory before:
