The cheapy Lude

So, it's a bit of a long story.

My missus (yes, I'm a bloke, regardless of what you may think ;) ) decided that, seeing as I'll be getting a company car, she would, for the first time, get a car that she wants, not just whatever crap I've picked up for her nice and cheap. So, she decided that she would like a jap coupe. She set her heart on a Hyundai Coupe or a Celica. Once we decided that the majority of Coupes are little rot boxes, and that the Celica's can be a little too highly strung, we weren't too sure where to turn next.

On chatting with my dad about it he mentioned that he'd spotted a red prelude, parked up with a sign in it only 5 minutes from his house, so, we went to take a look.

It was getting dark so all we could tell was that it was a red prelude, with Civic type R wheels, no badges, no spoiler (but holes where the spoiler should be), beige leather interior with red piping and a double din dvd satnav head unit. Oh, and a sign saying £500 NO OFFERS!

I called the guy, he gave me the lowdown on the car, it basically transpires that he was banned and can no longer afford the insurance but it's a straight car, with no tax or mot, loads of old documents, even the original "red key" in its packet. Oh, and the spoiler had been removed so he could get the boot lid sprayed due to bird lime damaging the clear coat.

I went away and deliberated a while and then thought that, seeing as it's on the road, with not tax or MOT, he'll want it moved, SHARPISH! So, I called him back, offered him £300 for me to get someone to come and tow it away. DEAL DONE! :D Plus, the towing was free as my dad works for a recovery company. ;)

So, what have I bought, it's a:

P Reg (april 1997)
Prelude Vti 2.2
Date of Liability 01 10 2012
Date of First Registration 24 04 1997
Year of Manufacture 1997
Cylinder Capacity (cc) 2157cc
CO2 Emissions Not Available
Fuel Type PETROL
Export Marker N
Vehicle Status Licence Due to Expire
Vehicle Colour RED
Vehicle Type Approval Not Available

It's an auto (tiptronic jobbie).

There's no rot.

It had its MOT yesterday and (only) failed on:
Rear fog lamp U/S
Main/dip beam issues - Nightbreakers already ordered
Lump in tyre wall - pair of new fronts ordered
All brake pads - ordered
N/S & O/S front brakes binding
Backbox leaking - new genuine one ordered

Advisories are:
Oil misting on N/S/F shock
Pitted disks

Overall, it's been quite a success so far. Not bad eh. ;)

Oh, 4WS doesn't work, and the light isn't illuminating.

...and the bonnet latch seems to be shagged.

Pic will follow at the weekend.

As said get some pics up :D Is the bennet catch spring full of crud? It can sometime be the cause. Once you get your MOT sorted get a bulb in the dash for the 4WS and you'll be able to tell whats up with the 4WS.

just adjust the bonnet latch it will sort out your flapping bonnet stick a bulb in the 4ws light and pull the code or do the reset and take it from there

I'm heading over to the garage tomorrow to sort some jobs out on this. I'm taking the 4ws reset instructions and error codes with me too. ;)

^This^
If it's not latching the bonnet down when you close it, that's what the problem is. Take it off and thoroughly degrease/clean it up and it'll be fine.

Brakes done.
Bonnet catch done.
Fog light done.

More info on the spec too. It's got cruise control, aircon, electric everything, sunroof, leather/vinyl roof lining (is this normal?), cup holders 8-).

It's a BB8 H22A5.

One little bit of body damage on the NSR wing. It's been treated, it just needs a touch of filler and painting.

Still needs a tyre and the 4ws sorting (fuse is present but no warning light).
